Default F22a6 engine replacement - Initial timing how-to

Hi,

The ongoing saga of putting another F22A6 engine in my 1993 Accord EX-R (canadian) continues. I bought a recycler engine (of unknown pedigree) and have changed the water pump, timing belts, spark plug tube seals, timing cover and i have adjusted the valves.

I'm ready to install the starter and distributor before dropping it back into the car. I'd like to know a couple of things

1- What is the correct firing order?
2- What direction does the distributor rotate?
3- how much initial advance does the motor take? How would I set it up at TDC?

I have a timing light for when I get it started. I would like to set the distributor up as close as I can to the correct spot to make sure it starts when I get everything hooked up.

Any help woudl be appreciated. If you have any other advice, don't be shy.

Thanks a bunch

Jacques

From what I know, the correct firing order is 1-4-3-2?? I can be wrong but I'll let the others chim in.

Ok,

I have the plugs in, distributor now needs to be set up. Does anyone know where the rotor should point? also I went to the Honda dealer and the Parts guy tells me that the keyway (slot in bottom of distributor) "floats" and as such does not connect to rotor shaft unless pressure is applied. So if someone would be kind enough to tell me where the rotor should point (one o'clock? ten o'clock?) when engine is at TDC, I would appreciate it.

Thanks,

Jacques

the rotor should be pointed at the #1 post on the cap which i think is nearest the exhaust side (front).

i would set up the initial adjustment so that the adjusting bolts sit in the middle of the slotted holes on the distributor housing ears. this is about the point that the washers on these bolts almost entirely cover the slot.
