Default distributor timing cause engine to shake?

hi... i just drove my b16 hatch home from my friends house. He claims he adjusted my timing on my distributor and i never checked twice cause he's pretty good with things like that. As i was driving home...i noticed some hesitation in the motor...and at some points the car didn't even want to accelerate. i was like crap. After the two hour drive home...i checked the distributor and noticed the timing was wayyyyy off. i dont have a timing gun...so i just placed it in the middle. Now the motor runs fine...but i noticed the engine shaking a little more than usual. could it be that i drove for 2 hours w/ the timing completely off and i messed something up? the engine didn't shake like this before. wut can i do? thanks in advance....

Search for the correct timing procedure for your car. It usually involes shorting a jumper wire and then setting the timing with a gun. Just because the distributor is in the middle of the adjustment does not mean that the timing is set or even close to set.

As far as what could get messed up. It sounds like the timing was severly retarded. It just wouldn't have burned all the fuel and would not make great power. Running advanced can cause predetonation. That is not a good thing!

just retime it with a gun and make sure to use a jumper so that it can reset that timing for you. Jumper goes into clip on the passenger side.

You'll be ok just retime it asap
