Default CRX shuts OFF when i let go of the KEY

I was driving her today, and i parked it in the parking lot with the car still running, first it shut off by itself, then i started her up she started fine but once i let go of the key she shuts off, if i hold the key she will stay on and that's how i drove it home it was not fun.

Theres the ignition steps from 1,2 and 3rd click.
First click (l) the radio goes on which is good. Now the 2nd(ll) the fuel pump and all the ACC lights in the cluster should turn on, but they turn on on click 3(lll) instead of the 2nd click, and when i let go off the key everything shuts off.

Its weird after few minutes its back to normal it will start and wont shut off anymore.

It feels like theres alot of play going on in the 2nd click (acc lights on, fuel pump on etc..) i can move the key side to side once its in the 2nd (ll)position of the ignition switch.

I dont think the ignition switch is bad? i think theres something loose maybe? or....?

Anybody experience this before? Its my DD.

sounds like a bad ignition switch. Position 3 is crank/start. 2nd position is run....where the key rests when car is running after its started.

I understand. So if its bad ignition switch, how is it replaced. Do i need to buy the whole ignition with a new cylinder and keys? should i get it from honda? or any auto parts?

Yes..new cylinders come with keys and a pigtail. Check a few dealers and auto parts stores. Buy it from the lowest one.

I was looking around on Majestic Honda, heres what i found

http://www.hondaautomotiveparts.com/...INATION+SWITCH

What parts should i order? Just the cylinder wheel? It doesnt come with a key from honda, so i guess i need to take that cylinder wheel to locksmith and have them make me a set of keys?

I was messing with the ignition today to figure out the exact problem, because the car does not always shut off when you let go of the key, she stays on sometimes and shuts off whenever. So i was looking today around the ignition cylinder while the car is running and i touched one of the wires on the back of the ignition cylinder (pig tail wires) and the car shut off. So now i know its wiring issue from the pig tails, i guess i should just order the pigtail wires from honda.

well the reason it is partial if it is the ignition is you have contacts maybe with carbon build up on them, preventing goo contact, or somehow there is a gap between contact, and the physical holding the key is enough pressure to maintain steady contact, and maybe sometimes its touching and other times not, but if you for sure can let go of the key and it die sometimes then its ignition related, so as stated, replace that part and while it is out inspect wiring for good measure.

I had this problem with my crx 10 years ago. The solder on the ignition switch wore out over time. I added some solder till the switch contacted and it worked perfect until I sold the car.

The solder gets WARM/hot on that thick white ignition wire. I dont know what that exactly means, and the rest of the solder on the wires feel normal they dont get hot.

Prob fixed, I took out the ignition switch wiring and cleaned it up, sanding the connections down. Put everything back together and now she runs on 2nd click. Ill see what happens tomorrow morning after driving it for while, i hope it stays like that.
