Default EG Cluster Issue

I picked up my new gauge cluster for my EG Hatch not too long ago. One with a tach on the left.

However, after getting the speed-o's swapped out, and the new cluster installed.. I took my car out for a spin to check if the tach was working properly.

Turns out, it doesn't. I'm not all that mad at the guy that sold it to me. After all, I payed $60 for it. Can't complain.

Scenario - Driving down 95th St. at the top of 2nd (45 MPH) and the tach was reading only 2.4k.

Scenario #2 - Sitting at a stop light, decided to test where my engine would red line at. My engine hopped at a whopping 4.5k steady every time.

Scenario #3 - Cruising down I-35, top of 4th, about to shift into 5th (80 MPH, I drive her hard) and the tach was reading 2.4k.

Scenario #4 - Just ****ing around, just now. Figured out that at the top of 1st (35-40), tach reads 3.5k

I don't know if it makes any difference, but my motor is a D15B7.

Just wondering if anyone else has had this problem? If so, how to fix it?

Any advice or thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

was there a problem with your speed 0?
But I would recheck for lose wires/connections.

check loose wires maybe there was a wire tapped in by an after market tach under the hood that wire being stripped uncovered or loose might cause this

Yes, it's a constant issue.

As for lose wires/connections. I've done that 6 million times. lol. Unless I'm missing something, all the wires are fine.

OE tachs are know for reading horribly. I regret buying my EX/SI cluster as well. I ended up getting a cheap sun-pro tach and mounting it on the steering column cover. its usually off by ~500rpm at cruise and 1500-2000@ redline
