Default EG stock Tach only reving to 6500

hey i just put in a eg gauge cluster in my eg. i had a jdm cluster in it and it worked it fine but didnt like the kil. so i switched them out. i have a gsr motor in my car so i was reving it out and it would only rev to about 6500 rpm it still hit vtec so im thinking that the tach is bad or i dont know if anyone else have thins problem if someone could help me out that would be great thanks

The rev limiter is engaging when the tach reads 6500 RPM?

its still reving out to 8200 or whatever stock is but on the tach its only going to 6500 so i think i just bought a shitty cluster that is off cause i know those tachs are off sometimes but i dont think it should be off that much

that piece of plastic in your cluster has nothing to do with your motor

When you had the old tach in it, do you remember what the tach read when you were going say 55mph (88.5 kph) in fifth gear? If you do you could compare that to the new cluster.

Yeah, that's your best bet for finding out how accurate (or off) the cluster is.

By using the gear ratios of the trans with your speed, you can calculate the RPM it WOULD be at, deduct that from what your tach is reading and you have the offset.

my gsr-swapped cx does the same... i ran the datalogger on on my hondata s200 system and it reads 8250rpm at the fuel cut (which occurs at ~6500rpm on the ex/si cluster that was swapped in ). at idle its ~100 rpm off, at 5500rpm its already registering ~1000rpm too low and by 8250rpm its even further off at ~6500rpm on the tach

never came across a solution to fixing it... just have to remember to shift at 6500, though a working tach would be nice

Which VSS do you have, the one from the car or the one that came with the trans?

VSS has to do with the transmission/speedo, not engine/tach. Tach gets its reading from the distributor.

same results with an autometer monster tach... is there a way to run it off of the ecu (hondata s200) instead of the distributor???

I'm sure its your tach, i gave my buddy with a gsr swapped hatch my old ex cluster and his tach also shows about 6500 when it hits the limiter of 8200.

I would just try swapping clusters and see if you get any different results.

i have an aftermarket autometer tach laying around... can i run the tach off of the ecu (since thats apparently seeing the correct rpm) and not the blue wire running behind the driver side kick panel (which leads to the tach)
