Dang I can't shift into third!
Okay, so I'm coming back from lunch in my 95 accord 5speed. 1st_2nd_3rd... grinding and then pushes the stick out. No third gear. skipped to fourth.
Ever since I had this car third gear has been an issue. It would grind while accelerating from 2nd. Impossible to get into from fourth without double pumping the clutch or going in to 2nd then 3rd. I am going to have to take it in Saturday, but do you guys have any advice????!

Or just really ****ed synchros maybe? I hate transmissions, but the best first step is to give it a once over. Have you bothered to look at anything yet?

Well I havent checked anything yet. But I do remember hearing a crazy rattling noise when I accelerate and then clutch to nuetrel. The same sound happens when I rev my motor at 40+ mphs. Sounds like its coming from the area where the tranny is located. I thought it was the synchs goin out too cuz of the double clutching. Could it be the clutch? I wonder how much this is gonna cost me. This car is about to be the most problematic honda I have ever owned! I just had the MC replaced. Before that it was the slave on the clutch, before that the starter and alternator. WTF!
A couple possible causes. There is a bolt that goes through the shifter assembly on top of the trans. It has a lock washer, this is very commonb for breaking. It will also probably have bad sycros, and or bad sleeve or gear.
I have just taken care of my trans issue. If you buy a used transmission, find someone that knows what they are looking at ( someone capable of rebuilding) because it is easy to get screwed. I had the same problem except mine was 2nd, and 3rd ( the most common gears to damage). I bought a H23 trans, it went into gear smooth out of the car, but when we got the case off, what do you know the 2nd &3rd syncros, syncro sleeve, and the actual gears were trashed. So I bought a used H22 trans, and what do you know 2nd was trashed, the syncro sleeve, and the syncro.
On the trans that was in my car originally, the bolt in the shifter assembly was broken, and so was the one in the H23 trans.
Good luck to ya, Ditch that long geared tranny for a shorter one. I have H22 1st,2nd, 3rd, 4th, with f series 5th gear and final drive. I love it, good gas MPG in 5th, and its capable of doing 108 in 4th.

if you were to take the time to disassemble it, you would most likely find that you need (at minimum) 3rd gear syncro, 3rd gear brocker ring and shift fork. It may also need third gear itself.
You'll probably find it cheaper to forgo trying to repair the unit and just secure a good used replacement.

also, do you guys think it will make it til I get paid on the 28th? I usually only do about 20 miles a day back and forth to work... mon-fri. So I guess I need to last another 150 miles or so. You think it will last???
mine all happened in a day.. i was going to work, and all of the sudden i couldn't go into 3rd. so i skipped 3rd and went to 4th. that seemed to work okay. when i went to 5th, it went in fine, but popped out. i made it to work with 4th. when i was leaving work, i got into my car and tried to put it in reverse... nope. i had a few friends push it backwards for me... i tried to put it in first.. nope. i couldn't get into any gear. i called the tow truck, and took it to my house. all i can say is good luck man..
