Default Simple Intake question

Ok so I'll admit I'm not too knowledgeable about cars. But I was looking at intakes and this guy said he would sell me one for $50 its a cold air intake orginally but it looks like its been cut so it doesnt go to the fender or wherever else it goes for the real cold air.

Looks sorta like t his http://got-jdm.com/JDM/images/AEM_cold_air_intake.jpg

It's a the blue AEM one the guy crashed his car.

Should I buy it or is this not a proper intake my one buddy said might as well its onyl 50 bucks lol the other one said naw it will only give you like one horsepower if that since if its not tot he fender its not really a cold air intake.

They're both right. For $50, you really can't go wrong, but don't expect anything out of it except a nice sound.

Alright yea I'll probably just get it for the hell of it even the sound and 1 horsepower is good for $50 if that. I got this car from my bro is a 94 Si automatic. I'd much prefer a standard but oh well I guess it lets me be lazy.

A bit of derail here but would an exhaust be the next upgrade to get? If not what else would you get for peak performance for the $$$ or if I should go with an exhaust would you reccomend I go with and how much should I expect for labour. I guess you could also get a proper cold air intake.

I personally hate exhaust systems on Automatics .. that sound that comes out when automatioc transmission switches is way too awful to showcase. Get intake, leave at that, when bored, sell car and get a Standard Si or VTEC.

Yeah, it's good for a nice sound. You might accelerate a little better on low end, but don't look for horsepower gains. $50 isn't bad as long as he cut it in the right place and it still tucks in like a proper SRI.
