Default Tial WG Not Holding Vaccuum?

I have a 38 mm WG and hooked a vaccuum line to the side port, and plugged the other 3. This port does not hold a vaccuum and I can suck air through it with no resistance at all. The top port - which in the vent - does hold a vaccuum. I something jammed up inside possibly?

Thanks!

not sure if it should hold or not but why would you even apply vaccuum to the side port? i dont think thats good for the wastegate

Vacum goes to the side port when running off wastegate spring only or on most mbc...did you just install the wg or was it in and working fine before? do you have the ring in?

Just installed in out of the box. I assume it is in working condition and Tial claims it need to be hooked to a pressure only port - I have no idea where to tap into the boost pressure pre throttle plate. I thought it was common to hook it to the vaccuum mani?

the wastegate only needs a pressure source to open so technically vacuum does not go to it at all.

it should work fine if hooked to a vacuum mani its just not recommended. you could tap the compressor outlet or intercooler pipe to provide a boost only source.

the side port not holding vacuum doesnt really mean much. as long as the wg opens when pressure is applied then you are good. if its brand new i would just hook it up and go. tial products are top notch, i highly doubt there would be any problems out of the box.

If the gate needs a pressure only sorce and doesnt hold vacuum, then it will become a vacuum leak.So find a pressure source and do it as tial says.

The compressor outlet is pressure only because at normal idle speeds the turbo is turning fast enough to blow air OUT of a BOV that is cracked open. Just don't take your WG signal from the manifold and you're set.

I guess I would rater weld a hose bung to my charge pipe. Is there are specefic place it should go or is anywhere fine?

My other thought was running from the vaccuum mani but using a check valve to only let pressure through to the WG. - I have a feeling though this may not be the best way as far as reaction time.

I just drilled a small hole in my charge pipe, threaded in a brass threaded nipple from Home Depot and then sealed it with JB Weld.... simple as can be. As long as the source is Pre-TB your good to go.

I was too lazy to take the pipe up to my friend to weld a bung on it, otherwise I wouldnt of went the Ghetto Route, I have an extra Comp Housing so I will probably drill and tap this go around.

I guess I'm still confused. So applying a pressure only port will be basically bleeding off boost through the 1/4" line while in boost up to the spring setpoint? So at say 5psi of boost there is basically a line of 1/4" boost bleading through the WG? Is or that air feed line being dead headed by the WG until it builds enough pressure to crack? Sorry for the questions, I'm just not getting the story right.

Thanks for the responses.

boost in the side port pushes the diaphragm up thus opening the wastegate
