I Have a Rare Oiling Problem
I have a 2006 3.5L single port with pauter rods, JE pistons, RC injectors, Motec ECU, Intercooled turbocharged in an off-road sandrail. I just freshly rebuilt the motor and am experiencing a problem with the V-TEC trying to engage at idle when motor is cold, only. I've tried unplugging the V-TEC solenoid and installed a new solenoid. When the engine warms up the problem goes away. Anybody have any ideas on how to fix this?
Thank you,
Tom

he said he has motec on it..
what does it do with the vtec solenoid unpluged?
when the engine is cold it probably has enough pressure to engage vtec, then as it warms up the pressure drops. you need around 30psi for vtec to work most of the time.
try suppling a constant 12 volts to the solenoid, maybe vtec is backwards on those motors, kind of like the r18's in the new civics

Sorry guys my first post might have been a little confusing after reading some of your replies. The problem is that the V-TEC is always trying to engage, whether it's hot or cold and whether or not the solenoid is plugged in. It also can't be the ECU because i've tried unplugging all of the V-TEC wires and it still tries to engage. Somehow there is oil bleeding into the V-TEC system and I can't figure out why.
Thanks,
Tom

How are you able to determine that the VTEC is "always trying to engage"? Also what exactly do you mean by "there is oil bleeding into the V-TEC system"?
How is your oil pressure?
So there is def no vtec solenoid engagament. And it goes away when the engine warms up...
Perhaps a sticking vtec rocker or pin? (im not that familiar with k's)

sounds to me like you have a bad selenoid or rather a bad valve. its allowing oil pressure through even when not activated which is causing your rockers to lock by themselves rather then by the engine management.
either that or your rocker pins are stuck for some reason.
it really cant be anything else
