Default Intake Breather Hose / Sensor on B16A SiRII question....

My friend's B16A has (as far as I can see) a breather hose coming out of the valve cover and also a sensor (looks kinda like an o2 sensor) going into the intake tube. He's going to be purchasing an AEM CAI soon and from my experience the breather tube goes into the AEM... but what about the extra sensor on the stock arm? Thanks in advance!

Depending what AEM intake he gets, it should have a hole and a rubber grommet to be able to put the IAT (Intake Air Temperature) sensor in there...

Take care,

He's going to get the ITR CAI system and I believe that only has 1 hole for the breather... where would the "sensor" go?

id check on that..96+ CAI s will have not only the stem for the breather but another with a rubber or plactic holder for the sensor

when you go to install the intake, its very straight forward.....i wouldnt worry about it at all.....

once you start putting the pipes in you figure out exactly where things go

Here's a picture if it helps:

See the item noted as 1... i've never seen an AEM CAI have a spot for this sensor.

It's an OBD-II type Intake Air Temperature sensor. The OBD-II cold air intakes have grommets for them.

But his ECU is modified and he is now running OBD1. Can we ignore this sensor?

No. OBD-I's have intake air temperatures on the manifold. (on GSR B18C1's anyway). If the computer is expecting to see IAT, if you have it at all, you better have it in the right place. Without it, the computer will enrich/lean the mixture to match IAT at WOT, and if it's not in the intake stream, it might lean it out too much and cause detonation (even sounds bad doesn't it).

If you don't have a bung for the IAT, get one and put it in.

hrm... well I don't know what to do now.

Well here's an AEM CAI system on a 6th gen Si. It appears that there's 2 spots.. one for the breather and the other for the IAT thingy.
