Good Idea to drill a hole into AEM intake to put an O2 sensor?
Yeah, i've been wondering if it's a good idea to drill a hole into my AEM intake to put an Oxygen(O2) sensor, so the car will pass smog. And Will the intake leak or wutever?

Your 02 sensor monitors your exhaust gasses; and last I checked there wasn't any coming out of my intake.
Even if you did it, it still wouldn't work right.

It would never get to operating temp, unless it ran the O2 heater the entire time. I'm sure they'd get suspicious if your car had 0 CO2 or CO or whatever they look for.

Yeah, that's not an "o2" sensor. I think the sensor you're talking about measures intake temps. But I'm not sure.
But I am pretty sure that if the intake doesn't have a bung for it and your car needs it, you won't pass smog because the CARB number on the intake doesn't apply to your car.

O2 sensors don't go in the intake pipe, end of story.
If you're talking about the intake air temperature sensor, that's a different story.

what would you drill a hole in your intake ( AEM...I assume a CAI or short ram) and put an O2 sensor in it. Even if it were an intake manifold, why would you put an oxygen sensor in it?

if your talking about this sensor...

it's the air temperature sensor you could just let it hang but it doesn't hurt to put it in. I don't think there IS a o2 sensor in the intake. hope that helped.
besides, i thought AEM intakes all had bungs for that sensor already? are you sure yours is a legit AEM?

umm...AEM doesn't have a hole or wutever drilled onto the intake where you're supposed to put your O2 Sensor at, but the stock air box does. That's why i'm juss wondering if it affects the intake's performance if i were to drill a hole into the AEM intake. imma take a picture and post it up for u guys...

Re: (specv5150)
wierd, my aem short ram has the hole in it..... it wont effect performance in any noticeable way to drill the hole, but make sure you arent putting an oxygen sensor in that hole, because u will still fail smog

There are no 02 sensors in your intake. There is an air temp sensor (IAT) and an airflow sensor (MAP). If it is an AEM, you should have those holes in there already; they have to be there to be CARB legal. If they're not, you either got the wrong one, or it's not AEM. You could drill holes, but the fit probably won't be perfect.

Re: (AutoXer)
yeah, now I'm kinda unsure if the intake's AEM myself lol. the car already came with the intake and exhaust, and i'm already thinking about changing the short ram intake to Cold Air and put an Apexi N1 exhaust.
