Need Help on Transmission Swap. motor wont start
Hi everyone. I have an 1999 Acura CL, automatic transmission, F23 engine. The transmission gave up. Thus, I bought a JDM transmission from Ebay and replace my old tranny.
All are put back in. all the connectors are plugged. But when i tried to start the engine it wont start. Its turning and cranking but it would not start. The gas although its in low level, it has not reach empty yet.
Then when i turn the key, i hear the fuel pump is doing its work. I also smell gas while im trying to start.
I also check the grounds and the grounds are tighten. I saw two grounds.. The ground to the tranny and the ground from the negative of the battery..
By the way, before i removed the old tranny, the car is running, there is only a problem with tranny.
any idea? pls help. I have been working on this for a week now.. desperate to have it working. . By the way, im just newby. im just starting to learn to do this..

i dont know what type of coil it has. i bought the car with it... but before i remove the tranny they are working all good. and i check the spark plugs by removing them and turning the ignition then see if there is spark. there is spark strong enough.
could it be the coil? because if im trying to start it, it will almost start. but will eventually die.. could it be the battery or the distributor?
or it could be the jdm transmission.

iT has a Gear position switch at but the one i removed doesnt have. but i read here that I will just leave it. and doesnt need to connect it..
Also, there is no CEL, appearing.. why its not starting. im lost with this..

I know you have fuel coming in since you mentioned your fuel pump is working, but do you have spark?? I assume the motor was in good working condition before you did the tranny swap? thus good compression?
yup, i tried if it has spark and it has.. the motor was running before i removed the tranny..
the fuel pump is also working because, when i turn the ignition, i hear a rushing sound.. like for 2 seconds..

i would look at the ecm and c if its bad but that might not b it tho and you have fuel and fire take the ecm out and get it checked and c if its bad

can Anyone explain me the grounds i need to check also. please!!!. i suspect it might have problem with the grounds.

If I remember right, there's a ground near the thermostat that is essential to the engine starting. Might want to check that one out.
i already check the ground near the thermostant and its hook up and tight. i checked the grounds. is it not that the grounds are those
1. in the transmission (bottom passenger side)
2. negative of the battery ( attached to the radiator frame)
3. G101 the ground in the intake manifold
4. ground in the thermostat..
pls help me if im missing any...
and, im thinking also it might be because of off timing.. because when i removed the old tranny i removed the Dizzy without putting the engine in TDC. then i put it back.
But i already corrected it this morning, i opened the dizzy and then put the engine in TDC. It was off.. then, i turned the pulley 360 degrees and the cap rotor is now pointing to NUmber 1 plug wire. The order of the plug wires is 1 4 3 2 . I was thinking its correct. please help me also in this..
if u know a detailed way of correcting the timing, please let me know.. and by the way. the engine is really turning because i heard that it has backfire in the throttle body.. Its like it will almost start but it does not start..
ppls help.

everyones saying grounds when you said you smelled gas? first did you take the engine and trans out as one? im assuming you did sense its eaiser to do it that way in a garage.. second if you did take the engine out wich means you needed to disconnect the fuel rail/filter from the fuel line to the take sense your smelling fuel im assuming that you didnt hook up one of those lines or the copper "gaskets" for the returnline to the take isnt sealing.. what i would do is have the hood open and prime the pump and listen for anything seeping out
your not suposed to smell the fuel when your starting the car that indicates a problem

i just took out the transmission.. and i did not disconnect any wires from the engine except those close to tranny.
i smell gas because i have been trying to crank it up. its maybe because of the backfire from the throttle body..
anymore ideas.. pls. help..
i just checked the timing this morning, i put the crank pulley in TDC, then i removed the rotor cap, and the rotor is pointing to number 1 piston. I think theres no problem with it. then i tried to start it again.. BUT it does not start..

i really need help in this one. Here are the things i did. but still it would not start..
1. I replace the starter from my other running accord. It would not start..
2. I opened the fuel line and turned the ignition on, the gas went flowing as in flowing a lot. So the gas is not the problem.
3. I removed the distributor and placed it in my running Accord. The dizzy work their.. Thus, the dizzy is not the problem.
4. I got the battery from my working accord, placed it in CL and still it would not start. IT only cranks but wouldnt start.
I suspect that the 1998 t0 2002 accord tranny would not work in CL. can anyone confirmed? because I saw the harness in the accord that it has wire for Gear Position Switch, while CL does not have wires for Gear Position SWitch.
What I will do today is i will again removed the plugged wires and reinstall them.. and try if i miss a ground.. but i triple check it.. all the grounds are connected. can anyone tell me all the grounds i need to recheck and recheck and recheck.
