Default 94 Civic LX acceleration Problems

Hey, I have a 94 Civic LX automatic. I purchased it in June. The problem I'm having is that sometimes I have to press the pedel further than normal to get the car to accelerate, sometimes almost to the floor. I also have problems maintaining a stedy speed with the car, especialy in town. The car also surges when it sits idle in park. When I purchased the car the check engine light was on and I had to replace a few sensors and the idle air which we though was why it was surging.

I'm not shure if this is part of the same problem, but when I drive up any large hills or mountains the car doesn't have as much power as it should and sometimes will shift hard when climbing.

I appreciate any help, thanks a lot.

Is the CEL still on? If so, pull the codes.

Have you done a basic tune up by replacing the plugs, wires, cap, and rotor and setting the ignition timing to spec using a timing gun?

The CEL is off now.
I haven't done a tune up. The guy I bought it from had the motor rebuild 2 years ago. As far as I know that was the last time anything was done under the hood.

Do a basic tune up and go from there.

did you burp the cooling system real good? sometimes air gets trapped in the iacv and it wont get a good reading from the sensor.

Hey Im still having the same problem kind of. We looked over the car and the plugs any everything look like they were replaced recently. The only thing I wasn't shure about was the fuel filter so I replaced it just incase. I only have the problem when the car warms up. When I start the car first thing in the morning it will run great as long as I keep it running. It will run great for hours if I don't shut it off. But the CEL is on. If I shut the car off the CEL goes out and the problem with the surging and the acceleration problems start. I push the pedal to far it seem like it's going to bog out.

I've checked the CEL when it is on hoping it would tell me what's wrong, but it doesn't all ways come up with the same codes and the ones it comes up with I have replaced.

I've never heard of a car running great when the CEL is on and when having problems the CEL goes out.

What are the CEL codes? They are being thrown for a reason.

if the car has been sitting for more than 6 months, i suggest pulling out the gas tank and replacing it with a gud used or new one, b/c the gas tank is feeding shitty fuel into your engine...if that doesn't work then check your battery or alternator or your dizzy(distrubitor)...you should do (1)gas tank, (2)dizzy with new spark wires and plugs, (3)battery, (4) battery, also, check your spark plugs and spark wires, if they're no gud then your car can run shitty also...

Replaced the alternator last month, brand new battery. Never replaced the distributer or plugs, but we took the pugs out and they look like new. I think they were replaced not too long ago. I was told the car was sitting for 2 months. If the car was getting bad fuel, would this cause problems with the o2 and ect.
