H23A VTEC- Is there such a motor?!
I've got a 92 Si Prelude with a H23. Is there a VTEC version of my engine?! (not the H22a)
I think thats the F20B accord SiR-T motor with the blue valve cover. It looks like the H22. Its on http://www.jdmhondaparts.com I think.

No, but you can put a H22 head on it and it'll be a VTEC monster.

the f-means sohc the 20-means the displacement 2.0 so i doubt it would be that one. i know that a h22 head can marry a h23 bottom. ask doctor wong he knows much on this subject
My friends shop has an F20 DOHC motor out of a japanese accord......It looks just like a H22 but with a blue valve cover and sportshift auto tranny......Its for sale.....

So, sorry to sound naive, but what is the 'head' that I need? Would I just need the cams off a H22? What about the ecu?
This would be so much better than just dumping a H22 in my engine bay
PLEASE tell me more!!!!
If I was going to buy the whole engine, i would probably just go for the H22. But thanks anyway.
What I am really looking for is converting the engine I have to VTEC. (That would still work out cheaper right?)

Ok, the H23 Vtec motor is found in 97' and up accord wagons in Japan. It does come w/ a blue valve cover. And yes, they are very rare. Expect to pay a premium for it.

OKAY LOOK!!
Just go and buy the top end off a h22a motor... The motor is a H22A , and thats the motor you ask for , when wanting to buy the top HALF of the motor( all of it not just the cams but everything but the bolck which is the bottom half)
YOU THEN JUST BOLT THE BITCH ON , thats it.... You have vtec....

So there is no need to go and get a new ecu?
And will it remain the same displacement as what I have now (close to 2.3L)?
mmm, 2.3 VTEC... this is gonna be sweet!
Thanks to everyone who has helped me out with this question, all the info is truely appreciated!
I promise to let you all know how the bitch turns out in the end!
If anyone has any more opinions/advice for me, PLEASE don't hesitate to post or email me at Arch-Angel@optushome.com.au
Cheers all!

You will need the H22 ECU to run the H22 head. Your transmission and axles from your H23 should be compatible. If you don't want to go through the headache and don't mind losing the .1 liter of displacement (2.3 liter to 2.2 liter) then just buy the complete H22 swap. It goes for about $2300-$2400 and it comes complete with complete motor, transmission (LSD for additional $400 I think), axles, ECU, and sometimes the gauge cluter I think. Check http://www.jdmhondaparts.com and http://www.ardperformance.com
Man Jap engines are expensive in the US!
I was quoted $2200 AUD for a H22 half cut that had done 90,000 klms here by a few different places.
That works out at about $1200 USD!
Those links you listed have H22 half cuts for $3800 USD! there is no way I am paying $7500 AUD for a H22!
I might look at keeping the h23 and changing the head over to a h22 like you said. now all i gotta do is find a good mechanic to do the work! (no one down here knows about these engines!!!)
Cheers.

Just must have went to the wrong link or something. Go to jdmhondaparts.com, click the intro image, wait for the menu to appear, click Engine -> Engines we carry. You will see H22A for 2500 complete swap or 1200 for longblock only.
I might be wrong but isn't a halfcut the front half of a car?!? So for USD$1200 you get the entire front half of a 'Lude... that's my impression anyway...

Whats a 'long block'? is that the motor only? If so, that wouldn't really suit me, since I would need the ecu and wiring as well...
It seems a lot of things are different over here!
Plain and simple if you want a JDM H22 motor spend $2500 for the complete swap. If you really want to dig around and find just the head and ECU seperatly then be my guest, be prepared for a headache.
OK, OK, I see your point. The only reason that I ask is because I talked to my mechanic the other day and he advised against doing the complete engine swwap with a H22. he said that he had done a couple before (when he used to work for Honda Australia) and that it was a pain in the butt. He reckons its easy enough to just dump the engine in, but to get it running correctly takes time, and at $60 an hour that is going to cost the earth.
I am interested in finding out more about he head simply because it sounds easier to do. I am not going to be bothered looking for 'half an engine', I will probably just buy a half-cut but look at only fitting on the H22 head to my h23 block. I can just send the rest of the H22 block to the scrap yard for all i care, or even use it for parts...
So I guess, what I am trying to find out is which swap is easier to do... Just assume that I have a H23 in my car and a H22 half cut sitting next to it. Would it be easier to implant the entire H22 or just marry the h22 head to my H23 block?
