help me with gearbox problem
hi everyone:
my car develope a strange problem in last 2 days. It will not go in gear occasionally. it dose not grind, it simply won't go in any gears.
If the car is moving, I can rev the engine a little bit and force it into gear. if the car is stopped completely at a light, there is no way to shift, the only solution is to shut off the engine, put the car in gear, and restart the car in order to drive it.
this dose not happen all the time, maybe 5% of the shifts. It happen alot today. after I get the car going for a few shifts, the problem gose away, and shifts are normal again.
the warning before this shifting problem usually start with a strange cluth pedal feel, with some vibrations.
thanks for all your helps in advance.

It will let you shift. You have to take into account that the hydro mechanism may not be able to adjust for the amount it needs to push the fork forward to disengage the clutch. As you clutch wears this push becomes longer and the clutch disengages higher. Adjusting the pedal height higher gives you more fluid and leverage against the secondary when you push it. This will allow disengage your clutch.
Here is a pic stolen from the FI forum illustrating it:
This article has some good clutch info(beware it may be a little biased):

hi vteg, thanks for your inputs.
I just bleed the cluth and change the tranny fluid today.
the tranny fluid looks more dirtier than the last time. the clutch fluid was very dirty as well.
however, these did not fix my probelm.
are we assuming that I need a new clutch because the car has 150k miles and on it's original clutch? I mean even if I have a worn clutch, I would still be able to change gear. and the problem I am having is unable to change gears. Also when the problem occurs, the transmission makes some noise(spinning noise like a loose belt coming from tranny case) and the clutch pedal vibrates if the clutch pedal is all the way down, if I lift it up a little, them the noise and vibration went away. And if i am already in gear, it is very hard to get to nutral as well. And the car drives fine most of the time.
Anyone out there experienced with a similar problem?
I do expect to replace the clutch soon, but this dose not sound like a worn clutch. IMO. If I know a new clutch will fix the problem, I will be happy.

They are. It took me a few minutes to figure it out though. Look under your dash, up the clutch pedal. There is a white plastic stub on the pedals stalk(I don't know what it is called). That stub rests against a bolt. There is a 14mm(I believe) nut that you loosen. Then you spin the assembly to move the bolt that it rests on up or down. Then retighten the nut. Then bleed your clutch afterwards and see if you like it.
This is a rough explanation, but if you look you will see what I am talking about.

a new clutch is being put in to solve the problem.
it turns out 2 of the springs have been popped out. the clutch still have approx %30 life left.
I got a exady clutch from *** imorts for $265.
