Icon2 Canadian Si-SiR Rear Brake Swap

All info i've found is for american versions that don't have abs.

I have a Canadian 1998 Civic Si. For those who don't know, it is exactly the same as the American 1998 EX coupe, but it has a/c and abs brakes.

I found a guy selling 1999 Canadian SiR (same as the american Si but with a/c and abs) rear brake conversion parts.

My question is, since they are both abs, do they have the same brake booster? I am definitely going to use the SiR MC and prop. valve to be safe, but i just wanna know if i need to take his brake booster too?

Also, i am assuming they both have the same front discs, and so i hope none of these changes affect my front brakes..if i am wrong, please correct me!!

I will search for more info, but any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance!!

I suggest you send a PM to 94EG8. Very helpful guy, and knowledgeable about brakes and brake swaps. From New Brunswick.

I'm pretty sure my 96 EX has ABS and I know it has A/C. I'll go take it on a back road when I get a chance and see if I skid stomping on the brakes or if it chirps but slows down.

i believe the master cylinder is 15/16" for the si (usdm ex) and 1" for the sir (usdm si)
i know they are different though. the booster is the same i believe.

i didnt know the sir had ABS.. interesting.

well from what i've found, SiRs have a/c and abs while american SIs dont (wiki) and american ex coupes only have abs with the auto tranny. Canadian SIs have manual tranny versions with abs. Thats what i could tell from searching online part websites..

hmmm this is getting confusing. i was sure the usdm ex and si had the same size mc..i will call a honda dealership after work and verify if the MC and BB are different here in canada.

called honda..apparently the part numbers for both the MC and the BB are different.

i guess the safest bet is to pay the extra 50$ and be sure..

"An anti-lock brake system (ABS) is standard on the EX sedan, and optional on the LX sedan and EX coupe."

I'll pull out the original window sticker from 96 in a bit and see what it says. I always thought I had ABS... maybe not lol

hey ur probably right! its just that when i search u.s. online parts stores, for the 98 civic ex i see options for 4AT, 4AT (abs), and 5MT. I just assumed the usdm 5MT had no abs judging by their labelling protocol...correct me if i'm wrong!!

i don't normally see just the abs system for sale, but u can search around here: http://www.torontocivics.com/tccv5forums/f23/

its where i find all my parts around the toronto area. if vancouver or montreal or another major canadian city is closer to u, u can probably google a club website for any of them. montreal websites may have a lot of french posts tho..
