10W-30... Oil consumption?????
Does 10w-30 oil burning more than 5w-30.
3000 miles ago I did my first oil change, I put 10w-30 moble one in and encountered an oil leak from the oil filter. Reasonably sure I corrected it. However, 2000 miles later I jack up my car and see and oil beed run from the oil filter, I have no idea, I installed it correctly.
But anyways now approaching an oil change I'm about a quart low on oil, and have noticed that with every check of the dip stick the oil leave progressively keeps on getting lower and lower.
So what in the *%^*#&%) did I do wrong.
please spare the "you're a freakin dumbass" comments

You overtightened the filter. - It should be hand tight.
You didn't oil the seal on the filter before fitting it. - If you didn't do this, the seal gets damaged when you put the filter on.
My '92 Si /w 163k miles doesn't burn oil, but a little bit leaks around 3 of the valve cover bolts.... extremely slow leak.
I've only had one leak around the filter before and that's because I know I didn't tighten the filter enough...whoops.

Ive always had a problem with mobil one just disappearing in my motor. I have tried other oils and mobil one is the one that seems to burn up the easiest. But its true that u may have overtightened or the gasket on your filter is bad.
good luck
good luck
The molecules in synthetic oils are much smaller than conventional oils, thats why it tends to burn more, it can actually get past the rings and valve seals.

I did the change today and switched to 5w-30 still moble 1 Super Syn, Got the oil filter on to what I think is perfect just hand tightened it, and lubed the seal, and finally put 5.1 quarts in. So we'll see but I think I'll have no problems.
Thanks ya'll.
