ill tell ya what i like for cleaning. Meguiars All Purpose cleaner mixed a little stronger than half and half. I use this for whels and tires, really dirty carpets and wheels wells and engine bays. Spray it on, let it set for like 5-10 mins than scrub the really heave areas and wash down. And repeat if its that bad. I dont like to pressure wash with an engine in the bay but if you do just use some simple green and be sure to cover the dizzy, fuse box and battery and dont directly spray the alt.

^ You can find them at OSH. I also used a product called Meguiars engine clean spray. You just drive your car around 10 minutes, spray the stuff on, and wipe it off. It looks brand new again. Anything Meguiars makes is good IMO..

Mine was slightly worse than that when I got it with a leaky valve cover for thousands of miles. The bay had never been washed from 88 to 06. Simple Green, and Some hard work and I got it good enough for me. It isn't perfect by any means, but how often does anyone see under my hood? Next to never unless they wanna see what an underpowered stock motor looks like. Haha.

Other comp is down so no before pics, but this is after...

Good luck Rob.

CLEAAANNNN outside, I tried simple green and it didn't do anything, I used some engine bay degreaser and it covered it with silicone or something, then I used Greased Lightning and it lifted dirt off like nothing.

I think this car is a great candidate for engine makeover.

Get APC or Super Degreaser (by meguiars) 4:1 in a FOAMING spray bottle. The Foaming spray bottles tend to work better IMO.

Warm the engine up 2-3 mins should be enough.

Spray degreaser liberally over the engine. (Don't get overspray on body panels)

Let it set for 30sec-1min. Then aggitate with a brush. Get all sizes of brushs, from a toothbrush to a hand held brush. Get all of the areas you can. Rinse with water from a spray bottle (not a hase). Repeat if nessecary until all dirt/grease has been removed. Spray Meguuiars Hyper dressing 4:1 for a brand new off the lot look.
