ok so let me start out by saying i know this can be done, i just want to verify that i have all my bases covered before i go buy a motor to use to only pass inspection.

1. my car is a 97 ex so it is obd2a i believe.

2. motor will be a b16a2

in order to use my factory obd2a harness...

-obd2 alternator
-obd2 dizzy
- ckf bypass as seen here http://technet.ff-squad.com/ckftrick.htm

-some way to trick the rear o2 into thinking there is a car installed (spark plug defoulers - anyone had any luck?)

my main question - what ecu? can i use an ecu from a 99-00 si? aka does obd2b work on obd2a?

 

best ecu to use on that motor will be a p28 or p30 but you will need an obd2 to obd1 pigtail.
and not obd2a and obd2b harness are different.

 

i cannot use an obd1 ecu, that will not allow me to pass inspection, it needs to be an obd2 ecu.

 

my bad dude i read the engine code wrong. i thought it was a jdm motor.

then to pass inspection you will need a p2t ecu which come off the em1. to make that work you will need an obd2b to obd2a conversion harness.
