when does vtec engage

i have a d16y5 engine. when should vtec engage

it's got a 2stage vtec setup.. I believe one comes in low and then the other comes in somewhere around 4800 rpms... i'll have to check and make sure though.

Well since your is a y5 vtec-e motor(fuel economy) its 3000 rpm.

z6 and y8 kicks in at 4800 rpm.
