Default Differnces between b20b and b20z?

I plan on building a b20vtec and had a few things I was hoping to clear up before a bought a b20. The thing I was wondering is what changes were made to the b20z(or newer jdm b20b's) that gave them more horsepower than the earlier b20's? The newer b20's are a couple hundred dollars more on most of the sites that Ive seen and just wanted to know why. If its something in the head that they changed I would probably just get the cheaper b20 because I will be using a vtec head anyway. Any suggestions on which would work better on a b20vtec? All input is greatly appriciated thanks

The 99-00' B20's have a 9.6:1 compression ratio vs. the old school 8.8:1. If you are building the block (good idea) then just get the low comp version, but if you aren't (not advised) then try to get the newer version as long as the price difference isn't too much.

regardless of b20's, if you decide to build the bottom block then I would go for the cheaper b20b ones. The b20z has higher compression pistons and a different manifold more like the Ls manifolds. Therefore more horsepower. If you decide to go b20 vtec and decide to build the block then get the b20b. If you decide to keep the bottom block stock (which is not what I suggest) then get the b20z because of its higher compression ratio.

Ive been checking some prices and found eagle rods and wesico or cp pistons for around 775 shipped. Building the block is something that everyone has reccomended so Im going to try to do it right so I only have to do it once but sleeving is very expensive. Should I be ok with just rods and pistons? Also there are many different piston options on these sites. Im looking for around 200-225whp with a b17 head. Any suggestions on cp ratio?
