1995 Integra GSR cutting out when I get on it?????
I have a 95 GSR with 140k miles that has been sitting for about 6 months. it runs and idles great with no check engine light or anything. When I get on it and it hits vtec the RPM gauge goes crazy and reads completely wrong and the car cuts out like a turbo car with a bad tune. I do know that there is an exhaust leak on the manifold, and two spots in the exhaust but other than that I have no idea. Ive changed batterys, checked grounds, checked sensors, changed spark plugs, checked distributor cap and rotor, changed fuel filter, added HEAT and fuel injector cleaner, put in a new air filter with a decent one from an LS, changed the oil. I have checked all that I know and am at a loss. please help
the check engine light has not come on yet, I havent looked to see if when it hits vtec the CEL comes on. Im almost positive it doesnt come on when I get on it.
if it came on it would stay on, so prob not. the crazy gauge and weird running sounds electrical to me, though, have you checked all fuses inside and out?
I have checked all interior and engine bay fuses and none are blown. Im not sure if there would be any relays to check. Its a weird deal and Im not sure if there could be something mechanically wrong with the fuel system or ignition that would cause problems with no CEL.

sounds like theres a short in either ur wiring harness or a short in ur vtech wiring...from what ive been told v tech is a set of cams and sum honda wiring only honda has idk but dude there 70/30 chance there is a short somewere in the wiring. i work at acura tho i dont work on the cars all the time i have seen prob were a mouse bit though a engine wire harness and when vtech kicked in the car would shut off cuz of this... i was the guy that had to test drive the dang car... it will be a lil pricey to take it to dealership. 100 dollors to diagnos depending on were u live good luck man
The car is a 1995 GSR that is 100% stock with 140,000 miles. It isnt a swap and hasnt been touched from my knowledge. The car sat for 6-8 months because the person hit a curb at 15-20 mph in the front right side and bent the spare tire a little.
Hey, I’m having a similar issue. I have a 94 integra GSR and I’m having a fuel cutting issue that sounds like the problem you experienced but it’s not after vtec. It is normally through the lower range of reving. Initially I thought it was a misfire but I narrowed it down to a fuel cutting issue and narrowed it down to the distributor. I pulled the cap off and cleaned up some of the components and it’s still cutting periodically but not as bad. Do you think it may be the igniter as well? Thanks
you'll for sure need a new coil and icm eventually
i always carry an extra.
test and/or replace.

Okay, I ordered a new ignition coil. Also on a side note, I’ve also been having some idling issues and was wondering if it could be related to the distributor issue or if it’s separate. When I am idling at operating temp my idle fluctuates like it can’t find optimum idle. It will drop down to like 300-400 and jump back up and keep jumping and falling and sometimes it even just dies. Thanks again.
