Brand new EX-L makes humming noise...
...at about 40 mph. I've searched and this sort of noise seems fairly common. Many suggest a bad wheel bearing, but the car is literally one day old. I'm wondering if it's just normal engine/road noise-- this is my first Civic and I may be just hyper-sensitive to any unusual sound in a new car. I don't know-- any ideas? I bought the car out of state but I'm sure I could take it to any dealer to have it looked at-- just wonder if it's a problem. Car seems perfect otherwise. Thanks!
when youre talking about noise, do you literally mean sounds?
or are you talking about a slight vibration/rotational grind on the steering wheel?
if its the latter, then i have that too (i have an 09 EX). i actually brought it in to the dealership, and they took a look at it, and said they didnt find anything wrong and suggested it was probably the wheel bearing.however, they told me to come back when it starts acting up even worse so that they can diagnosis it better

It's definitely a noise. I haven't noticed anything in the steering wheel. At about 40, there's sort of a hum. It goes away (or at least dissapates) at higher speed and then comes back as I slow down and get right around 40. It seems to be coming from the passenger side rear.
OK-- I took it in and the dealer said the noise is not normal. Turned out to be a bad right front wheel bearing. They replaced it and everything seems to be ok now. We are relieved. I've read other threads/boards that suggested such a noise was a bad bearing, but I never thought a brand new car would have that issue.

I think there was a run of bad wheel bearings put into production. Looks like your car received one of the faulty ones. Glad to hear everything is good now. I hope it doesn't negatively affect your opinion of Hondas as a whole, as it would with some people.

I love the car and understand these things happen- just weird and annoying. We'll work out the kinks. We have a 2006 Pilot that has been infallible.
I noticed tonight that there is a similar noise at 60 mph so I'm wondering if I got more than one bad bearing. I'm going to take my wife for a ride and see if she hears it just to make sure I'm not completely paranoid. If Honda had a bad batch of bearings it would make sense to me that I could have gotten more than one. We'll see what happens. The dealer was great-- put a stethoscope on the first one to isolate the problem. If I have to go back (55miles), I'll ask them to check 'em all.
