Default Tranny swap. DIYabblabble?

93si/ex into a 99. Was gonna take it to a shop, but since school books cost me my left nut, running short on funds. A guy I met said "Its easy! 15mins each axel! Then you unbolt and it fall out!"
Also, do I need a tool for the clutch? I got a Exedy one (thx *** import).
Thx.

i have a d16z6 waiting to be put in my dx hatch also. i heard its not that hard, just time consuming. you need to have another person helping you out also. you'll need a jack to lift up the tranny, it helps. i'm going to take my to a friend to put on cause i don't want to have to worry about doing it and i don't want to take the time to try and do it. but from what i've heard, its not that hard. the tranny should be worth it also from what i hear. i'll find out hopefully tomorrow.

You do need a clutch alignment tool if your clutch kit didn't come with one. Once the tranny is off, you might want to get the flywheel resurfaced as well. As far as being easy....well maybe if you've done it more than twice. Try to get a friend to help out, it'll make the job a bit easier. I'ma tell you from experience, its a bitch trying to line up the tranny back onto the block by yourself. It took me 6 hours to do a tranny/clutch swap by my self, about the same time as it took to do an engine swap by myself.

LOL. i remember that all too well. you can do it yourself. it is straightforward and fairly simple but just labor intensive. but, remember to have a helms manual handy just in case you don't know where a certain part goes or how to remove it. i would also suggest getting seperate ziploc bags for each part so you can store the nuts and bolts for that part to avoid mixing them up. and write the name of the part with a permanent marker so you wouldn't forget. i know, common sense type of stuff but, just a suggestion.

how did it go?
Found somebody to do it for 150 Sidejob.
Took him 3hrs, with air tools. Holy ****, there are alot of bolts. Seemed like he took off half the engine (maybe it was half heh). Some parts (the front lca and the knuckle) had to be crow-bar'd off with some stomping.
Putting on the new one took a while (like the guys said). Had to wiggle it back and forth, up and down, till it finally lined up.
Anyways, sort of glad I didnt do it myself. I have no air tools, only a ratchet set Would've taken me the whole day probaly.
