want to buy a civc
i went a saw a 00 civic si today. the ac is broke the kid does not know why. he just said that it stopped working on him the other day. It has 140k miles on it and he want 5 grand for it. is it a good deal or is he asking to much
LOL.
Hey man, in your description of the car, you said "kid". And the kid
stated that the AC just "stopped" working. These are just two red
flags for me. You should probably find out if his dad kept up on the
maintenance. I have a huge lexicon of things I go through on a car
before I even consider buying it. With someone young and it being
one of those wacky "VTecs" that all the kids are into these days,
there's a possibility he ragged on the engine or didn't keep it up
properly..or both.
If you're not exactly sure what to look for when you're checking
out a used car, I suggest you take it to a mechanic or bring someone
knowledgeable with you. You don't want to regret spending that
kind of money two months down the road. 140,000 miles is just breaking
in a Honda, in my opinion. But 140,000 miles in the hands of a
Honda abuser is a completely different story. I checked out a CRX once
with 90k that felt and sounded more like it had 400,000k. After further
questioning the seller, it turned out that his son drove it all the time..
who was responsible for the racing sticker on the hatch window. I
can't imagine the torture that stock engine endured.

Ok. i did talk to the dad he said that they just changed the water pump and spark plugs 1000 miles ago. about 5000 miles ago he put in a new stock clutch and new break pads. i drove the car. it rode nice and shifted smooth in and out of gear.

I paid $4500 for a 99 Civic Si - everything works perfect, good paint, some small dents/dings but it runs fine and feels decently quick, but it's been 10 years since I drove anything with a B16 in it
Try to get us some pics of the Si you're seeing and since the A/C is broken, offer 4500 or less. Being it's a 00 makes the value go up a little (about a grand).

Yes the ac is broke he said. Doesn't know why it stopped working. Yeah I was going to offer him 4500 for it and see if he can work with that. Bc there are some dents and dings on it. Thanks guys
Awesome that you drove it. Awesome that the Dad was
actually doing maintenance to the vehicle. Lots of people
think they can buy a Honda and never have to touch it.
I have lots of funny stories about that kind of stuff.
Check the car for leaks and blown gaskets and I'd say
you're ready to negotiate.
Good luck.
