b16 tranny vs ls tranny
So I have a b16 hydro tranny that took a crap on me...something broke on the inside and penetrated casing and cracked it. I have an ls tranny also hydro at my dads. The only thing wrong with that one is 3rd gear is bad....so I would like to keep my b16 tranny gears, a lot shorter you know. If I take apart b16 tranny and ls tranny, can I replace broken parts in b16 trans with ls? What gears are the same and which ones are different? Like I said I would like to keep b16 gear ratio's and don't have money to buy new b16 tranny so I want to work with what I have.
i have an LS tranny case, and swapped everything from a B16 into it. no problem.

Yea I know that can be done but idk what gears and bearings are still good in b16 tranny so I was asking if I can use ls bearing if I need to.....I think all my gears are fine but before tranny gave out...it would stutter a lot when accelarating
More than likely your differential exploded and went through the back of the case(usually around where the shift-linkage is). I've done that numerous times. Take both trannies apart... make sure to mark which one's which. If you search there's a teardown and rebuild thread that has a how-to and pics. The B16 and LS diff's are the same... you'll just have to take the ring gear off your B16 diff and put it on the LS diff(if the diff exploded). The B16 has a 4.40 final drive and the LS only has a 4.26 final drive.
The bearings are all the same... 1/2nd gear synchro is different since its a dual cone on B16 and single on the LS. Other than that they're interchangeable. You might want to swap to an LS 5th on the B16 tranny while you're at it.
