Default Making a collector... (Sticky?)

I'm surprised Weir hasn't posted his write up on here unless I over looked it... I haven't tried it yet but will be on my next day off. Just thought I would share, and thank you Weir for a great step by step write up that everyone is always asking about!!!

Maybe because it can be misunderstood as advertisement.

i'm tired of having my **** locked for coming off as "advertisment" complaints by vendors... that is why i don't post anything terribly helpful anymore - other than a "thankyou" from some of the membership, there is no benefit to sharing knowledge here for anyone other than the owners and vendors who want lots of traffic. sure, i'm a swell guy if i do post up helpful information, but the second i post something that looks like i'm trying to solicit work, it gets locked. christ, i only do fabrication work for local customers! how am i stealing business from all these big vendors? and what about all the other "fab threads" that are posted by non-vendors? why is mine the only one that seems to have been locked? sometimes i feel that someone just has a real hate on for me...i'm actually surprised i've not been banned yet for being an *******!

bi-metal 14-18 variable pitch blade. for cutting thin material, you actually want an even smaller tooth pitch. cutting 16g tube and schedule 10 pipe is hard on larger tpi blades. i find this tpi is a good middle ground for cutting this stuff and then going to a solid 2.5" round bar of mild steel or a 4"x6"x.375"wall hss tube or something like that (hey i just shared some knowledge!)

Weir, if I had to guess as to why your threads to get locked I would think its because of the link in your sig which takes people to a page that has a lot of flanges that people here will buy.
I manage to stay under the radar for a few reasons, I don't do asian import fabrication, I don't sell flanges or other fab related goods, and my stuff is pretty expensive, enough to deter most of the HT crowd anyways.
I literally have never made a single sale, of any sort, through HT.

I think it's because your work is on par with any of the vendors here, at times like these when money gets tight people really start to dread the competition that could put them under. Keep up the good work. I think some of these people in the forums take themselves way too seriously. Its a sad day in Honda-Tech land when they want to lock the thread of a professional fabricator that is posting pics and helpful info in a section called Welding and Fabrication. Is not that the reason we are all here? to gain knowledge and get inspiration, and help eachother out as a community united? I have a dream... lol :-)

You might try changing your sig to just your company name. The link itself is worded as an advertisement which could be your problem.

It's complete BS. I have the same problem on VWVortex. I can't post anything there. It's actually a miracle my thread is still open here, and I'm very appreciative. I'm careful what I say I guess ...

I think the admins forget that good, meaty content is what brings people in. Take that away and what do you have left? A bunch of people asking questions (and not getting answers) and 5 pages of advertisements. (Okay at least here the ads are in a seperate section, but on the 'tex the first 10 topics are ads).

If we weren't all on here sharing information, there would be nobody on here.

if a mod asks me to change my sig, i'll happily do it. it doesn't make sense to me either that non-vendor members are able to advertise in their sigs, but can't post about something interesting they made in thread form.

I thought we weren't even aloud to have our company names or website links in our sigs?

In a sub-forum dominated by shops, I can see how there would need to be a fine line between advertising and simply letting people know who you represent and what you do when you post. Without a signature I don't see how we can really tie relevance to posters though - the handles mean little to nothing half the time.

yeah it's getting pretty bad around here, look at the allmotor section, the big guys are getting canned left and right. it really makes people think twice about making new products for the community.
