first turbo build.....what tranny and clutch should i use?
Hey everyone. Looking for a little advice.
So im doing my first turbo build. And im trying to figure out what tranny/clutch to use.
Its a built b16 in a DA chasses, im going to be making around 450whp. The car will be at the local drag strip every once in a wile but will mostly be used for freeway runs.
What do you guys think?
LS, B16, or B17 tranny?

No, I personally hate B16 trans when motors are forced inducted. Gears are way to short for me. May not be for some others but thats just my opinion. LS trans have pretty long gears and are pretty good for boosted applications.
My brothers did for over a year. I'm sure if he kept doing pulls from a dead stop it probably would've broke but no need to do pulls from a dead stop unless your on a track with all that power.

haha. i was thinking LS tranny. i loved the b16 tranny for all motor, but i do think the gears are a little bit too short.

Just get an LS trans then. You'll be happy with it from rolling starts but from a DIG, you'll hate it since it doesn't have an LSD.
yea. not going to be doing too many digs. thats forsure
how about a good clutch that will put up with the power?
something on the cheaper side guys. but not too cheap

ACT, Exedy or Clutchmasters. I've had good experience with all of them. I actually liked my Clutchmaster clutch the most because of the least of amount of chatter and somewhat like OEM pedal feel.
Keep it. The shorter geared tranny is going to accelerate the quickest if you can put the power down. Don't bandaid your car by putting a longer geared mission in it. Work on the suspension, tires, traction control, etc.
go with that ys1 gsr trans. most definately. ive had just about every combo of motors and trannys you can cook up on a 400 hp boosted motor. right now im with a hydro gsr trans and lsd. its perfect gears for the track and my power level to go through the traps at like 8000rpm in 4th and its not really bad on the highway at 75mph either.
