Re: which tranny??? (Turbo00)
I have also not been able to figure out why the LS tranny is so much better for Turbo. I know the B16 and GSR tranny have short gears and that the LS tranny has longer gears, but how does the help a turbo charged car??? I have a hard time admiting I don't know the difference, but what exactlly does it mean when a tanny has short gears as oppose to long gears. I have a RS which has the LS tranny, I hope to have a turbo on my car my next summer, so would it be best to keep my tranny. Also I have heard alot about using a different final drave such as the type R or GSR, I know what that is but would the type R final drive help any in a turboed car?

Ls tranny has longer gears which means you can boost longer within that gear. The shorter your tranny is, the less amount of time you can boost with it. You would benefit from a b16 or r tranny with an n/a car more since there is no boost to use.

plus you can go into a higher mph, eliminating the need to upshift. you are able to get into the 100's in third gear with say a b16.

Re: which tranny??? (teamsakariRCR)
You cannot boost longer really, you are just IN the gear for longer. The idea is the same N/A or turbo. LS transmission is geared taller which means less torque at the wheels. So you theoretically could get more traction, and you are going faster at the top of each gear. This is only helpful if you can eliminate a shift (aka, a shift to 5th gear), and that should only matter if you are trapping at 120+ mph.
Else the only turbo related reason to use the LS transmission is if your turbo is sized wrong or something, and using the LS transmission puts the revs in a place where the turbo is happier (I cannot even think of a specific situation where this would be the case, though).
My opinion: using the LS transmission when turbo is all hype. All it does is get you a little bit of traction really.
