help leakin coolant through head gasket on b20b: Update pics+video
i have a 95 ls and recently bought a b20b from a jdm engines and the motor has from 30k-40k miles but i put it in my ls and have coolant leaking from my head gasket and its pretty severe, does that means i need a new head gasket or is there another solution to this?

Did you swap out the intake manifold before you did the engine swap? Reusing the intake manifold gasket can make it look like your headgasket it screwed up.
yes i did swap my intake manifold and gasket that i had, so your saying that its probably my intake manifold gasket? but why is it leaking from my head gasket in front of my motor
I'm guessing its either a new head gasket or the head might even be warped but preobably the gasket cuz u got a new engine from a supplier, and usually they resurface the head and stuff if there's a problem...but even if its just the gasket it might warp the head so u need it fixed... its probably just the gasket which is expensive to fix... on my car it was running 1300 for a shop to do it... But if u can do it yourself u can probably do it in about 10 hours of work if u have time for it. and its only like 100 bucks for the gasket itself
So was that a yes or no on a new gasket for the intake man??
Also forgot to mention it could just be that the mounting bolts on the head that connect it to the engine block are not tight u should check to see if they are loose before u spend a crapload of time and/or money on it lol

Lol even if there is coolent mixing with the oil aka "chocolate milk" as long as the head isn't warped or damaged in some way u can drain and replace the coolent and oil after u fix it

Yeah so do what I said... Check the mounting bolts make sure there tight then decide if ur gonna do the work urself or have a shop do it... I would recomend doing it urself if u have time cuz its WAY cheaper and not very hard just takes a long time :D ... If u installed the engine urself then it should be pretty easy to get the head off... Cuz just about everything u already did except taking off the timing belt which is a pain lol
yea i installed the engine myself but i never did my head gasket is it hard to do, is there an article in the forums that show u the steps on how to do it?
First off props for doing the engine yourself :D
No its not HARD it just takes a while to disconnect everything u just connected with the new engine
lol that kinda blows...
I did it in about 5-6 days of actual work... It actually took almost a month cuz I could only work a day or two on it a week :/... or like 12 or so hours altogether on my car I only did it like a month ago lol and that was my first time too...
But basically u gotta take off everything connected to the head, so u gotta drain the coolent, disconnect the fuel system, (u can leave the intake manifold on if u want it just kinda gets in the way but if u disconnect it or the exhaust u need new gaskets for those too which=another 200 bucks lol) remove the intake manifold and the exhaust and the timing belt etc. With all the other smaller things connected to those lol (there's a lot) any way then u gotta take off valve cover and the camshaft and rocker arms and take off the mounting bolts and take off the head and replace the gasket... reconnect everything and viola ur done!!!!!!!!
I Spent only 130 to get mine fixed :D
it takes a while but much much MUCH better then paying some people 1300+ to fix it lol
I would defnately suggust going to autozone or checkers or someplace and picking up a repair manual (helps A LOT) I don't know if there's a detailed coverage of the topic online anywhere... I'm sure its somewhere but I donno where to find it :/
Anyway to check the mounting bolts (which u should do FIRST!!!) Just take off the valve cover and they are right there...(They are the ones not connected to the camshaft or rocker arms) basically not attatched to anything lol the lowest (deepest) ones in the head
But really u need to find a detailed repair manual if u can its worth a lot more than the 20-30 bucks it costs lol (if u don't have one yet) (But if u have one it should be covered in DETAIL there) (and if u don't MAJOR props on doing the engine w/o a repair guide) :D
if u have anymore questions lemme know... And lemme know how it goes

Btw when u take the head off (if u don't already know this) u should check the head for warpage by putting a striaght ruler or something on where it meets the block and check that its level... If its not u need a new head
and the place u got it from MIGHT replace it or resurface the head for free I donno :?

So,i just installed a b20b on my friends integra. Its a 94 ls with swapped parts from my b18.All connections and everything is setup correctly.Car was backfiring changed dizzy and car turns on fine...but at 4000 rpm.My main problem and question is i am leaking antifreeze from head gasket. What exactly is my problem blown headgasket am i correct.I havent had car on long enough to see if it overheats.Sometimes it would shoot flames out of manifold. But thats not the problem.Do i need to get a new head gasket and do my timing.I have no milky substance at this point, but i am afraid to leave car on for more than 30 seconds. Is the head geasket easy and swapping parts a fairly easy job.Is there anyone in CT who has free time that can help me.I'm working on two tegs and i need to get one out of my yard.If anyone can help even with a step by step..something.I have the order in which to take off the head but i dont know what the order means exactly??
9..4..1..6..7

Yes its defcinatly the headgasket and the numbers are the way u take off the mounting bolts number 1 is the first one u take of and the location corresponds to the location of the bolt so the first one u take off is the top middle one the second is the bottom middle one the third is the bottom middle right one and etc. Lol just take of he mounting bolts in that order
FYI...
Changing out a Head Gasket is not quite as easy as Rockzilla explained. It is a good idea to have someone who is experienced do it for you or guide you.
There is a specific pattern in removing head bolts, which should be replaced as they tend to stretch. There is CAM timing involved ie: Timing belt water pump, valve cover gasket kit, intake manifold gasket kit, exhaust manifold gasket can probably be re-used if its metal and in good shape, so it is not as simple as removing the head and placing a new gasket.
It does take some experience and or very detailed instructions and all of the correct tools, and most important of all..Torque specs!
Your 1st order of business would be to contact whomever you purchases your motor from, as it sounds to me like they screwed you unless u got it for next to nothing. As it almost definite that your head gasket is blown, and u possibly have a warped head, which will need machine work. Not to mention that its pretty damn greasy for a motor purchased from a supplier!
Their is a reason why a shop charges decent money for this kind of work. I normally charge about $400 for labor and it's done the next day!
Be careful...
Hope this helps
