Turbo choice dilemma(last thing needed for finished project)
Hey all,
I have been putting together my weekend warrior/race car for the last few months and have gotten pretty much everything put together except for my turbo/manifold selection. I have been back and forth between a variety of setups but I think I have narrowed it down to two choices and wanted to get some educated feed back from people on here on my choice. My power goal for now is to make mid 700 - low 800 HP.
To start off here is just a basic list of my setup:
85mm sleeved GSR Block 9-1 compression
GSR head manley valvetrain
Skunk2 Pro1 cams
Victor X intake
70mm BDL TB
750HP Percision IC with 3inch charge pipes
dual 044 pumps, lines etc
1000cc injector dynamic
GSR trans with quaife
DSS 3.9 axles
Competition Clutch stage 5 sprung
S300 with options
From looking at the dyno plots on this site and others I really like the power and spool characteristics of the T3 .70 A/R S366 but eventually I might be putting a dog box in this car and going to a very large turbo setup such as a S372R with 1.25 A/R. So what I was thinking is getting a S300SX 91-79 (which is very similar to the S366 but is a BW housing and not a bullseye housing)from FR with the T4 housing so I can use a T4 split exhaust manifold and not have to worry about having to change that if I decide to make this a dedicated drag car.
The problem that I am running into is there is very little information regarding the T4 version of this turbo. I did find some info about it from geoff (Full race) who said that the standard split .91 A/R housing is much to small for the 66mm inducer. Now I can get it special ordered with the 1.10 A/R housing which from what I can gather would be a beast setup with good spool characteristics and I can easily upgrade to a bigger T4 setup in the future if needed. I just can't find any dyno info regarding a setup like this and I am kinda hesitant to be the "test subject". Just thought someone here might have some more info regarding this setup. I think bullseye did something similar and called it a S366XL but not a lot of info on that either.
Any comments or info is greatly appreciated. If you think I am going down the wrong route in my thinking process and think a different turbo setup would be better let me know as well.
Geoff if you read this let me know if you have any dyno info regarding a S300SX 91-79 1.10 A/R on a B-series motor. I spoke with Aaron yesterday on the phone regarding the availability of the housing and sent a email but have not heard any response yet.

That turbo would work well for that setup and be plenty for 700hp. The S300sx 72mm would be plenty for 800hp. Lots of guys have used the S300sx 66mm(91-79) with good results, so you wouldnt really be a guinea pig.
Another turbo you could try is the billet 6765 from Precision. You could make 900+whp and still be almost streetable.
