Default Questions about swapping a replacement Y8 engine and P2P ecu into a 96 Civic EX

First off this is my first post, and this will be my first time working on a honda. I am an avid DSM guy, but my buddies DD took a terd. He was desperate and impatient and just bough on a whim a D16Y8 Engine for 400 dollars and a P2P A01 ecu for 40. His car is a 96 civic EX. I plan on helping him do this swap and am wondering what all is necessary. Thanx for any help.

well, since you have the motor down. change your timing belt & water pump as well. everything else is a direct swap

I wont have a problem with the ecu? Im sure going from non v-tec to v-tec something will have to be different with ecu/wiring?

If he has an EX it already had a Y8 in it. You should be able to just swap the block in and be good to go.

Yes I already have a 96 Ex. As you said it should already have a D16 Vtec in it. Thing is when I bought it, it didn't. Something is ****ed up here but I don't know what.

What engine did it come with?

Check where the solenoid would be. Do you have any extra plugs chilling there. (Check for the VTEC plug, you may not have to wire in the stuff for vtec if its there.

The valve covers on the Y8s never had "vtec" on them they just said "Honda" and were the same on the Y7. My EX didn't have anything that said vtec either but it was pretty easy to tell I had a y8 with the stamp on the engine, solenoid, and the intake manifold.

Since it has a D16y8 in it already you won't have to do any wiring and there is a very good chance you won't even have to change the ecu. Swap can be done in 4 hours or so. Good luck!

Hey I have a 99 civic Ex MT and its got the P2P Vtec ECU. I put a Skunk2 Intake manifold plus a 68mm TB on the stock D16y8 motor its got (4-2-1 DCS header, Full Skunk2 Exhuast sys, AEM short ram intake) and thats about it. Will the intake and TB hurt anything in my motor or make my car through codes?????

What size injectors would be pref for my civic D16y8 with the S2 manny and 68mm TB?

Is my ECU fine with all that (P2P Vtec ECU)?
