97 civic lx/y8 swap - wire harness questions, speedometer & tachometer don't work
Stock 97 honda civic lx/y8 swap/manual transmission (Please help)
The car is currently running a 99-00 y8 auto harness with auto ecu witch is obd2b I wanted to do obd2a cause I have the ecu so I need the 96-97 harness an dizzy correct?
Could I use a 96-98 y8 manual engine harness on a 99-00 y8 and is it straight up plug an play?
Do I need the 96-98 dizzy then the 96-98 harness will work?
Also, my odometer, speedometer an rpm gauge doesn't work but fuel an temp do?all fuses are good any1 kno why?

To add to NAR, you need to know what you have have as far as the year engine, distributor, engine harness and ecu. I'm leaning toward the wrong engine harness. How many wires are in the distributor plug, 8 or 10?

I have no way of pulling codes. But its a y8 I believe 99-00 but I dont kno how to tell and I belive it has a auto harness it has 8 on dizzy thankyou for the replies

I hope you plugged your VSS in and also wired your tach, if you used a different engine harness than the tach gets its signal from the ecu.

I've seen similar problems when there are bad grounds. Once I had a customers car doing some pretty crazy things as far as the cluster goes and it ended up being that they put a reverse post battery in. It caused the ground cable to have to stretch over to the battery and eventually ruined the cable. It would still start but the electrical system wasn't getting a proper ground.

the harness will fit on the engine, yes. it will not work on the car. you'll need to reuse the 96-98 distributor or get an adapter harness.

The best would be a 96-98 ex (d16y8) harness. It is possible to use your stock harness but you will have to add a VTEC wire and lengthen a few other wires. You can't use a 99-00 civic harness in a 96-98 car. You will need to use a 96-98 distributor and D16y8 ECU. I think it's the P2E....

Fukin confusing man but why the hell are you running an automatic engine harness on a 5spd manual car.
EDIT: also there is no way for you to run that 99-00 harness in your car because you'll end up having 2 A plugs.

**** is weird. The dumbass I bought the car from had it like this thts why im askn so I can change it an make it rite ya kno an u can use 99-00 the other A plug is connected to the shock tower witch would be still in the 99-00 car but it runs an drives fine but idles a lil high
