Default supernoob

so me and the old man are arguing over this and to be honest neither of may be right so i need help.

I am changing my y8 to obd1. i know i need an ecu, bought a p28. but i bought the conversion harness also so IMO i can keep the y8 distributor, thus thats what the harness is for, the old man says i still need to change the dizzy to a z6 or obd1 dizzy.

clarification?

no point of chipping the p28 to run the y8.
