Default question for a friend

will a d16z6 work (with minimal effort) in a civic that came originally with a d16y8. A friend of mine needs to replace a motor for somebody but so far all he can find is a z6, but he needs a y8. Is there a way he can make the z6 work (with minimal effort), and without purchasing anything else? like swapping harnesses or intake? from what i understand he may need a obd1-obd2 jumper harness, and the original obd2 ecu.

thanks a bunch

yes it will swap in fine. what he will need is to either convert the ECU to OBD1 and use the Z6 harness or he could get the conversion harness and just have to splice the OBD1 injector plugs onto the OBD2 harness. in my opinion i would just convert the car to OBD1 w/ a p28 ECU and stock Z6 harness.... way easier for tuning and whatnot.

ok so with a jumper harness and the p28 ecu it will then work fine? and the stock z6 harness on the engine will plug into the connections under the hood on the originally y8 equipped car correct? he's not trying to tune it to do anything special just needs it to run like stock. thanks for the help so far

ek's use a 1 iece harness..the wires run straight from the sensors to the ecu. it would be stupid to replace the whole harness with an obd2 harness. reuse the y8 itake manifold/tb/rail/injectors/dist/alt if you have them and it will go easier. youll throw some cels with a y8 ecu but you can buy an obd1 conversion harness to plug in the p28 and it wont throw anyore cels. if you cant get the y8 intake setup or dist youll have to rewire the evap purge sol plug, iat plug and dist plugs. you need an obd2 alt to plug into the harness
