Default VSS!!! WTF!!!!!!

I have a B16a3 in a 95 ex coupe that needs a VSS & the whole gear assembly that goes w/ it to make it work. I have tried to search on here to find info. on VSS and have seen very little as far as compatibility is concerned. I need some help on this. What should I look for or need, etc... all I want to do is get this car started and running properly... I was also told that I needed to get the damn thing calibrated? WTF?!?!?!

Don't need to get it calibrated. Get a hydro VSS and they are pretty much interchangable.

well... I bought a 99 GSR vss for $55 from a guy on here but it seems like it is too big for the hole to fit in. I had to try to tap it in w/ a damn hammer to get it to go in and wound up scratching/scraping the gear it mates with.I just need one for a y21 transmission. I have no idea where to get one of these. Where should I go to find info. on this. I have search and search for vss install and compatibility here on honda tech and have found nothing. Please help!

It needs to be slightly twisted in some times. Other than that, you have done something to the inside of the mission or your case is fubar'd.

Talked to Steve yesterday @ hmotorsonline... told me the 99 gsr vss unit is too long and wide to fit in a y21 case. So, it's NOT TRUE that all b-series vss's are interchangable. Was also told that a 94-95 vss from a Del Sol VTEC would be the perfect fit though. Hope this works and even more importantly... I hope this prevents anyone else in the future from having the troubles I had.

ok... so I got the del sol vss in today and it is EXACTLY the same as 99 GSR. I was afraid this would happen. The new one is too big to fit in the hole too. I am totally stumped now. Isn't there anyone that can enlighten me on this? I have heard some jdm y21 trannies will not accept usdm vss sometimes. Any insight on this would be great.

ok... update... The part I purchased was the correct one. The problem is the gear it mates with in the hole is too big to fit. I know this cuz I tried fitting w/ gear holder inside w/o the gear and it went in PERFECTLY. W/ the gear it was going in at an angle because (i think it's the ring gear, right?) that was pushing it off center and blocking it from going straight it. Here are a few pix of what i mean...

ok... update... The part I purchased was the correct one. The problem is the gear it mates with in the hole is too big to fit. I know this cuz I tried fitting w/ gear holder inside w/o the gear pinion and it went in PERFECTLY w/ the gear it was going in at an angle because (i think it's the ring gear, right?) that was pushing it off center and blocking it from going straight it. Just look at the 3rd pic I posted of the view looking straight down in the vss hole. That gear on the right is in the way. What should I do? Is there a custom gear pinion I can buy or do I need to put a different ring gear on there?

So you removed the gear on the VSS? And it went in correctly?

What is the part number of the VSS assembly you just purchased?

Part number for gear holder is 23811-P36-000. And yes, when I took the gear out (I've been using the gear from the gsr) it fit perfectly.

I dropped the tranny and pulled it apart today and this what I got out of it.... On the lsd it had a number that said 20030. Not sure if that means anything or not. Anyone recognize this LSD?

Do the gears mesh together on the speedo gear and VSS gear?
