Default Front Brake upgrade choices for EG

Hi there

Currently I'm running the below Brake setup. Car is EG Civic Hatch.

DC2R 1" Booster/MC
Stock EG4 front brakes (242mm I think?)
DC2 Rear Disc brake + ebrake

My engine is stock D series, soon to be B18CR.

Braking is acceptable at the moment and responsive, but I'm looking for a bit more grab for street and for entry level track.

I'm just wondering, whats the best bang for upgrade just for the front?

Should I pickup a set of 282mm DC2R [slotted] blank rotors, have them drilled to 4x100 then match them with a set of DC2R Calipers and Knuckles? Is there anything else I need?

From my ongoing research, I think this is a good combo and with the new Endless SSS Pads and fluid should be a basically identical to ITR.

My two questions are:
  1. Does engine make any difference here? If I went with the above setup, is a B18CR conversion still straight forward without changing parts again? I'm a bit hazy when it comes to Knuckles, Drive Shafts and the LCA's etc.
  2. To run DC2R Calipers I only need DC2R Knuckes correct, nothing else (except Rotors)?

Thank you!

Are GSR and ITR Knuckles the same?

Read this from the FAQ:
https://honda-tech.com/forums/honda-civic-del-sol-1992-2000-1/how-put-x-brakes-your-96-00-ek-civic-revised-upgrade-chart-1513752/

Covers most of the brake swaps.

I believe EX/Si brakes are the same from 92-00, so no worries the FAQ says 96-00...

The 1994-95 EX/Si without ABS uses the same caliper, rotor and pads as the Integra RS (non ABS). The EX with ABS uses the same caliper, rotor and pads as the GSR (ABS). The Civic and Integra use different knuckles. The ABS equipped models are one different in part numbers, and the non-ABS equipped models are one different in part numbers.

I think the 92-93 EX and Si use the same parts as the lower models, but don't quote me

I know this is an old thread, but can someone tell me why you need to machine the dc2r calipers to put on an eg?

Using the ITR caliper bracket on a Civic knuckle is not a direct "bolt-on" affair because of the placement of the caliper in relation to the knuckle. This requires machining of the caliper bracket to get the caliper properly aligned over the center of the rotor. If you use a complete ITR knuckle with brakes on your EG, nothing has to be modified.

I might need to look at mine a bit better, I bolted it on directly and it seems to be fine with braking, pulls up really well, but that is possibly be why I have a lot of brake travel, I'm going to rebuild the mc and if it doesn't fix it might need to look into machining it to fit properly then

Without knowing all the specs on that rotor, it's hard to say. What they have in the picture isn't even a 4x100 rotor. We don't have that DBA rotor here in the US either, as far as I can find. Anyway, this setup has been documented ad nauseam at this point.

The problem with using a redrilled Type R/Prelude/Accord wagon rotor is that the Type R hub face sits outward from the knuckle a few millimeters. So when you apply the modified rotor to the 4x100 hub, it sits inward by that few mm, thus requiring you to mill the caliper bracket to re-center the rotor. This was the de-facto method in the late nineties/early oughts when people first started doing this swap. The VW Corrado front rotor was another option, but also required a small hub centering ring due to its larger register.

Most people at this point use a 280mm x 22mm rotor from a 2007+ Mini, it has a lower offset and is marginally (1mm) thinner so it centers up in the bracket without milling. The only change is that you'll have to use a TSX (CL7 Accord?) pad to eliminate the tiny bit of overhang you'll have from the 2mm smaller diameter rotor. The Mini rotor also has the correct hub bore to fit over the 4x100 Civic hub register.

Note the height difference between these two rotors... This is where your bracket milling comes from.

Here's a thread I found on a quick Googlization:

Ah ok thanks, they're meant to be 282x23 but I have a feeling they might be mini cooper rotors, there wasn't anything in the that I could confirm the specs so I'm trusting the website.

Thanks again for the info I'll check my car out better to see if there's any issues from it not being machined

I don't know why I never had to machine the caliper brackets or anything, I actually had to use a washer to center the caliper on the prelude rotor. Must be the type r rotor offset only.

DC knuckles
TL calipers with 23T bracket
4x114 96 Prelude VTEC rotors
Or
DC knuckles
CRV calipers
5x114 Accord rotors.

Interesting. I don't know much about the TL caliper or the 4x114.3 hubs. I do know that when I did this swap way way back when ('98?) I used the same rotor with the ITR caliper on an EJ1 and I had to mill (and re-drill, obviously).

The TL caliper is no different than any other 17CL15VN caliper. The only problem is neither of my brake setups are 4x100. I don't think the mini rotor was common knowledge when I came across my 4x114 knuckles.

That hub is probably the difference then. Just a guess though.

I should probably mention I have hubs off an em1

But what would I feel if the Rotor is off centre, because it's feels like normal and brakes really good, it's just the pedal travel
