91STD ac system problem
okay so i recharged my ac cus thats all the guy who i bought the car from said it needed to do.
cost me 110.
was pretty cheap for some 2hour coldness.
left the shop was super uber cold loved it.
then it came back to the hotass blower.
went back the next day to the shop and the guy recharged once more and we heard a leak coming from the compressor only.
a loud sssssssssssssssssssssss.
then the freeon level was at 0 again.
well my main question is can i just replace the ac compressor and everything will work fine and be cold again.?

Did the shop use leak detection dye when they charged the system? They should have.
If you pinpointed the leak point as the compressor itself and are certain that nothing else was leaking, then you should be able to get it to hold a charge by replacing the compressor with a good one. However, there are no guarantees when working with air conditioning, especially on an 18+ year old car. The system is only as good as its weakest link. You could very well replace the compressor and charge the system, only for it to spring a leak elsewhere.

I believe someone has posted pictures in this forum detailing the visual differences between the Matsushita and Sanden compressors to make them easier to identify. You may want to try a search.
