Default Code 8, No Start

Motor is a 100% fresh rebuild, 0 miles, B18A1. Car is wired 88-91 OBD0. Using Rywire ECU Jumper to go OBD1 with a OBD1 distrubitor, OBD0 injectors with the resistor box.

Engine cranks good and strong. After 5-10sec of cranking it throws a Code 8, TDC. I checked the sensor at the distruibutor its good 389ohm, and at the ecu again 389ohm. So the sensor and wiring is good.

Only possible problem i can think of is, cam timing off somewhat, or the Rywire harness might be missed pinned.

And it wont start, because the injectors arent firing. Its got spark, but no blinks on the noid light when cranking. Ive got 12volts at the injector, and the signal wire from the injectors to the car harness is intact and good, i didnt change the car harness so it should be good to the ECU.

Anybody have a problem similar, or know what might be wrong.

I really wish you the best, I have the same problem, however mine is Code 9 CYP sensor.. Like I mean EXACTLY. Have the correct ohm's going through through the wire. I'v bought a new dizzy, tried other conversion harnesses etc. However my car starts just can't get it tuned lol.

Are you using obd0 or obd1 injectors? You have the resistor box still intact if you are using obd0 injectors correct?

Subscribed for an answer. Good luck

I would suggest calling rywire and finding out if the distributor connector is correct.

You can also check it to make sure it's correct also by following this:

OBD0 OBD1
orange) (orange
white) (white
orange/blue) (orange/blue
white/blue) (white/blue
blue/green) (blue/green
blue/yellow) (blue/yellow
large white) (yellow/green **only color that is different
black/yellow) (black/yellow
blue) (blue

Have you checked with another ECU by chance? Or did you check to see if the terminals had continuity using a body ground?

Its just a Rywire ECU jumper not a total harness.

None of the wires on the distrubitor are grounded, so its good. Only the - terminals on the wiring are grounded.

ECU has a good ground on the thermostat housing aswell.

Yeah I have a Xenocron jumper in mine. The reason I was asking about the continuity was because thats one of the steps in the factory service manual for code 8.

Bump for some helpage!

My rywire had the CYP wires on the jumpper pinned to the wrong spots. Do some research pull up all the obd0-obd1 conversion threads and check over everything, thats how i figured it out on mine. It might be the same for your TDC. also if you havnt, look over your timing make sure its deff set to the right marks.

What ECU are you running?
From how I'm reading this, you have the car wired for OBD-0 and just the distributor is OBD-1.
That makes me think you have an OBD-0 ECU...
... and that will never work.

Must have an OBD-1 ECU to use and OBD-1 distributor.

Its a 94-95 OBD1 P75 converted to Manual, chipped, tested on a OBD1 CRX before given back to me.

Figured it out. The Rywire harness had the CKP and CYP wires switched. Swaped them, fired right up.

Because i was asked to.

Exactly! there is no issue here, its an issue of honda between obd0, obd1, and dpfi obd1 all being different. Please let everyone know it is not my fault, and only the installer not being familiar with honda ecu pinouts

If you trace them out, CYP(B11/12) goes to Crank Angle(15/16), and vice versa, which looking at other known working jumper harness's. Is the same way. Idk if thats just how it ends up being to work or what.

The final solution for it running without code was to flip the Blue/Yellow and Blue/Green, which i guess ive got mixxed up on colors when i built the harness, so its probably not yours, and its the stupid progression of colors between Pre-OBD, OBD0 and OBD1.

The car is a 87 Civic, so i had to first convert it to OBD0 from Pre-OBD, then i used your harness to convert to OBD1.

that is not correct - these are the wire colors for the OBD0 and OBD1 distributors:

these are the pages from the OBD1 EG Civic manual which will confirm this:
