New soft top today!!
1040 was for what exactly? A brand new OEM Honda top installed? If so that is a pretty good price. I've heard stories of insurance companies having places use used tops or non-OEM tops.
That's a pretty normal price I believe. They won't be needing new motors/frame or anything. Maybe it's just the fabric/rivets/glass/parts that are that much?
I'm also in need of a new soft top just went out today to go check some prices and see if there is any possibility of a patch working. Anyways Honda told me a new one would be just over $2,000, a small custom interior shop I went to was $1650 with an aftermarket top. I also went to a place that 3 body shops I talked to recomended and the guy has worked on a number of S2000 soft tops, his was very expensive at $2,200. So I think you got a great price if it comes out well.
~1000$ is what the dealer would usually charge for the cloth only (full price). They usually tack on another 1k or so for labor which they bill 7-8hrs for I think. 1040 is a really nice price for a brand new OEM top installed. Be sure to share the shop info on who it charging this price.

If it is OEM that is a great price. We usually charge people upwards of 2 grand. I'm a fan of the DIY though, you can get a high quality replacement top for 700-800 and spend a few hours installing it yourself. Very nice price IMO
I was wrong on the price, it was $1300 after it was all said and done including tax...
I beleive the shop deals with a company that uses oem "replacement" so thats what I got, but looking it over I can't tell what the difference would be, looks exactly like my old one, except not worn..lol.
I'm happy. The guy told me it takes him anywhere from 4-6hrs.
This is his 5th s2k this year.
You can get the oem "replacement" tops online for about 500$. There are a few different top options though, different cloths, some with no defrost and so on. From what I have heard the OEM tops are by far the best. I just picked up a used top (cloth only) for 400$ off a newer AP2. The top looks pretty much brand new.

ohhhh jeez... that sucks... yeah when i had my top replaced at the local honda dealer, the bill was around $1900 for parts and labor... thanks to a nice extended warranty it cost me nothing...
Yea, the 2 weeks the car has sat outside it gets hailed on
Going Monday to get a few dents pulled and some scratches fixed and it will be better than when I bought it.
Overall I can't complain.

Both on the passenger side.
I don't think tops are fragile, but it certainly popped it.
hail was approx golf *****.
I've thought about replacing mine, but I'm worried it will just rip again. I just patched it and it's holding up great now months later. Eventually I think I'll just get the oem hardtop. I don't want the money to go to waste if I were to just replace the soft top.
