Looking at a 1992 civic si Hatchback
<<<DECIDED NOT TO BUY THE CAR>>>
SCROLL DOWN FOR PICS
Hi Im looking at a 1992 civic si hatchback, 2 owner car, 5 speed, 132,000 kms , (82,000 miles) original paint. Rustproofing Oil Sprayed Regularly. Body is in great shape New muffler, new rear brakes, battery. The car has been driven very little in the past 3 years.
Im just wondering if theres anything I should look for, known issues/problems etc etc.
thanks

Main thing I look for when buying a Civic is making sure it's clean inside and out.. because changing anything mechanical is real easy on these cars.. not to mention you can always go with a swap
Trending Topics
Corner panels, front frame rails, rad support, rear quarters, lining of the trunk, but it sounds like you got it covered. Swaps or stock replacements are cheap and easy if theres any mechanical issues. What are you trying to do with it?
oh ok.. thanks for clearing it up. I wasnt sure if that Canadian 1992 civic si's came with vtec or not.. couldve been another CDM thing...LoL
well here are the rest of the pictures:
I wont be buying this car afterall.

I immediatly noticed some flaws with it, cosmetic flaws.
Exterior:
- Paint seems all original
- Rust bubbling forming at lower rear drivers 1/4 panel
- Rust bubble spot on drivers door near key hole
- Rust below passenger side rear 1/4 molding
- Huge dent on passenger side rear 1/4 panel molding
- Front bumper lining is coming off
- Front bumper has scuffs and road rash
- Rear bumper bottom has what seems like cement ? above exhaust area..
- Passenger corner lense cracked.
Interior:
- Seats are in okay shape, no tears or anything just need cleaning, same with carpet and mats.
- rear hatch area needs new back panel plastic (all scratched to **** !)
- rear hatch area needs new carpeting.. really worn.
- center console is scracted and worn.
- smokers car (ashtray was full of cigarettes)
- noticed some cat hair or dog hair.
- headliner was dirty and needs a good detailing inside !
- comes with Owners manual, no service records.
Engine:
- passed etest not that good.. number were kinda high. Car was sitting mostly for 3 years.
- Had some leaks around valve cover
- needs new valve cover gasket
- seems to idle fine and get to operating temps.
- Timing belt and water pump unknown.
- No service records available...

How much was he asking for this? This seems like a damn good find. I don't understand why you wouldn't buy it. Cosmetic flaws on a 17 year old car is expected (and that car doesn't even have very many!). The valve cover gasket is a 20 minute, 20 dollar fix. I'm pretty sure that "missing bolt" is actually just the spot for the ground that someone relocated to that bracket right under it. Finding a stock 92 si hatch in this condition is a rarity...What exactly are you looking for? A 92 si with 30k kilometers, sparkling paint, and shimmering interior?
Looks very good for being in Canada. I have seen some very rusty Civics up there. Lol at the undercariage what a sticky mess (I guess it did save the car though) I just wouldn't want to be the one to change suspension or exhaust. First time I have ever seen a steering wheel like that (well not the 4 spoke wheel itself but the center airbag/non airbag thing).

ummmmm.....how much was he asking....as others said, i dont know what your looking for when you go look at a car that is around 17 years old. And from Canada? Have you heard of snow? Last time i checked they usually get ALOT OF IT! and the rear Honda rust corners dont even look to be rusting. Its only got 82,000 miles!
Again, the price he was askin determines if it was good to walk or not, but the things that needed to be fixed were minor. Heres what the NADA Guide was showing.
----------------Rough Trade-In--Average Trade-In--Clean Trade-In-----Clean Retail--
TOTAL PRICE------$1,325-------------$1,850-----------$2,275-----------$3,350----
If you picked it up for $2400 even, you could have that fixed and repainted for 1800-2200 dollars if you strip it down and put it back yourself to save some money. Then you would have a mint hatch for $4400. So say about $5000 and your **** would be frrreeeeesssssshhhhhhhh.......and thats paying a high price for it.

not in bad shape though, that undercoating saves the car massivaly even the messy stuff.
the missing bolt is for the ground strap which is on the power steering bracket. how much where they asking for it?
scratches are nothing, they aren't deep. ARE you expecting a brand new car thats 17 years old?
