ok so first off i didnt know how to word this title so forgive me.
my first question is this..i have an older rockford fosgate amp, im not sure about the the model it says 120a2 and a bunch of stuff on the bottom that i dont understand completly. if any one knows about this amp will it be enough for a 15 inch digital designs sub?? i was told the sub is rated at like 1200 watts rms and 4200 watts peak.
now my granpa told me if i dont have enough power to my sub i could possibly fry either the sub or the amp..is this true
or will it just not be very loud??
sorry such a newb question any input is greatly appriciated

ok so the amp is a punch series??
on the back it has 30x2 watts rms continuos power into 4 ohms with less than 0.05% thd from 20-20 khz
60x2 watts rms contious power into 2 ohms with less than 0.10 % thd from 20-20 khz...
so i hope that helps

Both you and your granpa are correct, the amp is way underpowered so you would get very little output from your 15" sub, [your correct] because amp is so underpowered it will be very easy to over drive the amp into constant clipping and that would damage the subs VC, [burn it] and if VC shorted, it would in most likelihood blow the amps outputs, [your grandpa is correct].
As mentioned, you need to find an amp, a mono block sub amp with at least 1x1200W RMS into whatever impedance the sub is. 94

so what if i had two of these amps i have heard of people running two amps not to sure on how but also one amp is a little older but it says all the same things..and thanks for the input im glad i waited or i coulda went out and blew my little amp till it looked like MJ in his pepsi commercial..
Even if the amps were "strappable", [they are not] you would still only be looking at 1x120W RMS, your either going to have to get a proper amp to drive your 15" of find a pair of subs that will handle 50-60 watts continuous and use the two amps you have. 94

ok. well good kinda. lol so these amps arnt as good as i was told? i was told they could put out around 300 rms. so if i were to run one to like a jl w2 wich is i think rated at 300 watts rms( i could be hella wrong btw) would this amp be enough? either way i cant afford a new amp for thiis sub so it is now for sale. and thanks fcm...and when you say 1x120 your saying if its one ohm stable it only puts out 120 watts?

The amp is 2x30W RMS into 4 ohms, or 2x60W RMS into 2 ohms or 1x60W RMS into 4 ohms, the amp is not stable below 4 ohms when bridged into mono, the 2x/1x refers to the number of channels.
It actuall is a pretty good amp, [old school R/F] just not that good as a sub amp, much better as a high-pass amp. 94
