low beam blowing on 98 civic ex common problem?>
hey everyone its been awhile sence ive posted, been glued to a car audio forum now, but is it a common problem with 98 civic ex's or civic in general to blow the low beams? i prolly replace my headlight bulbs twice a year and its always the low beam, i belive i use silver star headlight bulbs from walmart.
well thats why silver stars suck in hondas. everyone i know that used them blow them out. maybe you have a water leak causing this blow out. just a thought, try using normal bulbs as a trial see how long they last. i hear those silverstar bulbs run hot as hell so heat could be the prob thats blowing them maybe. im not to sure

The silverstars are a good bulb. Normally the problem with the silverstar series of bulbs has issues due to USER ERROR. Most of the time people just grab their bulb and throw it in. You cannot touch the bulb itself. People never read that part and just throw them in. The oils on your fingers, whether you can see them or not, sit on the bulb. Add some heat and BAM bulb is fried. I figured this out the hard way myself. Now I've had a set in mine for over 2 years, because I wore gloves to install them.
i never tocuhed the bulb i own a green house with 1000watt hps and MH lights i know enough to not grab a bulb, but at one point some headlights i had got so hot that the connector milted togather
Anyways get a new OEM connector wire that bad boy in and make sure your lights are fully sealed so no moisture can get in. Check your fuse and you should be ok.
I had the very same problem with the Sylvania UltraStars. It was always a low beam that blew out.
Sylvania customer service told me that the blue coating that makes the light output white keeps heat in the bulb and they have an expected service life of 12 to 15 months. Mine burned out in about half that, several times before I gave up and put OEMs back in which have been without problems. (The reason I was replacing the bulbs in the first place was the ones in there were old and I thought I would upgrade them while I was changing them.)
There is another thread on the forums which mentions a (brightness) test of Philips bulbs, but has no reports on the burnout problem.
