well i know for alot of you this may be a real simple answer but i would just like too know what exactly happens when getting your car tuned...like what gets checked on the motor and why is it good too get your car tuned....
reason for asking is i just finished up my swap in my hatch and it runs fine but alot of people are giving me advice saying too get the car tuned anyway..by the way the motor is a JDM type R with only toda cams

You hand your keys over to some dude and say have fun. Then you sit there while he beats on your baby likes its a one stand from the bar and he just broke up with your ex-girlfriend.
They modify your timing and fuel with a program loaded on to a socketed/chipped OBD1 ECU. Each dyno run will record how the car reacts to changes made by the tuner.

remapping of your ecu (computer making actualy run correctly for the sercomstances such as the toda cams you shouldnt be running without a tune for example.
Ok. Cars from factory, are tuned kinda crappy most of the time. They usually have rich gas mixtures, specially Honda's when we go into VTEC. Any stock engine, when you tune it, you actually make it function to its best with the parts it has installed at the moment you tune it. Ignition timing, and fuel mixtures are basic tuning options. They change some parameters, floor it on the dyno, and check the A/F ratio, WHP and Torque, to see how it improved, and it what RPM range it improved, and continue to tune it until they reach the maximum amount of whp, torque, with the best possible A/F Ratio, while keeping it safe for the engine. Thats the MAIN event there. OTHER than that, they can adjust REV LIMITERS, program in 2 step launching options, make the car hold a much lower fuel cut ( rev limiter ) when the car is below a certain temperature ( To protect gas happy drivers who forget to warm up their car ), ETC!
There are TONS of options, but all in all, other than a slight bust on the pocket, everything about getting your car tuned is POSITIVE.
