never had a heating problem, radiator was filled with water and drove fine for couple of weeks, so then i decided to drain the water out and put anti freeze in it. After a day or so driving i notice that the temp was going up when i come to a stop, but goes down after taking off driving. It was a hot day, so i thought that maybe it could just be the weather. So i hook up the fan to make it run as soon as i turn the key on and the temperature now reads normal when stopping and driving. What do ya'll think it could be? I was thinking maybe the temp. sensor is going bad??

yep.

start the car with the radiator cap off.
leave the car running and you will see air bubbles coming from the radiator.
leave it running with the cap off for about 15 minutes or until you see NO air bubbles.

replace the cap.


if it is still doing it, make sure your fan is coming on. it should come on once the car warms up every few minutes.

If the fan failed to run when the engine was hot, then a bad fan switch is likely the cause of the overheating. Nonetheless, bleeding the cooling system is still a good idea. Note also that your Civic has a bleeder bolt to help release trapped air. This blot is located where the upper radiator hose connects to the engine.

 

actually the fan was working while the temp was going up, it help to lower the temp down, but i just rig it so it would come on constantly.

 

Okay, then definitely try a thorough bleeding of the cooling system.
