D15b, starts and fires up but will not stay idle
For about the past week or so it's been having an idle issue. It starts and fires but as soon as I let go off the key it just dies. No error codes, been running great except for this. Lately Ive been lucky and itll stay at idle after I start it up but no luck today. It never died on me while driving, but sometimes the rpm would slightly go up and down and I could hear my fuel pump doing the same. Any clues or suggestions?
sounds like your idle air control valve(iacv). Use some brake or carb cleaner, if not your iacv try adjusting the idle bleeder screw.
I was thinking that, but I also forgot to mention that when I turn the key I don't hear it click the the first or second time. Especially the second time, I don't see the battery or cel, and I don't hear the fuel pump prime. But it starts and then when I let off the key it dies. I was thinking is it the main relay possibly?

Oh thanks! I'm pretty sure it's the main relay though, but who knows. I don't hear or feel it clicking at all. It's probably only starting up due to the remainder of gas thats left over in the rail, I'm guessing. I'm going to long beach this weekend so I hope I can get it fixed by then; cross your fingers!
The point is that when the key is turned to ON(II), the CEL should go on for 2 seconds and the battery light should remain on. These normal events did not happen (see post 3), hinting at a problem with the ignition switch.
I just got the main relay out from under the dash. At first I held it while starting it and no clicks but then I kind of shook it around and it started to then click, fuel pump primes, but still no dice. I felt a click before and after the pump and then a third when it started. It starts up and kicks over but once my hand is off the key it just goes off again. Aaagh, I dunno what to do!
I'm gonna go with the ignition switch. I saw another forum where a dude had the exact same symptoms as mine. It ended up just being a dirty connector. We'll see what happens!
Hey, I got it started and running. The part that connects to the housing, I had to clean some of the little burn marks (it looks like) off. Put it back together and started right up and stayed running! I might buy another oem one though and replace it just for peace of mind cause it looks like someone already messed with it (the wiring).
