Default Clutch Pulsing, HELP.

Hey,

Question about my clutch... When i lightly press on the clutch (5cm?)... I can feel this pulsing in the clutch.. and sometimes theres some squealing noises that i can hear....

when i clutch in completely, the squealing stops and i can't feel the pulsing...

anyone know whats wrong??

I bought the car used 8 months ago... first manual car... didn't realize this wasn't normal until mechanic and friends mentioned it... mechanic said hes not sure whats wrong, hes only felt that before on a NSX with a aftermarket clutch...

Thanks in advance.

that's strange.

any idea how long the clutch has been on there (mileage)?

if you're wanting to do the work yourself, replacing a clutch can be very inexpensive. i say that because, if you pull things apart to investigate the noise and pulsation, you may as well put new parts in.

my first thought for the noise would be the throw-out bearing, but i'm not sure you would get a pulsing if this were the only issue..

Sounds like the throw out bearing is damaged. Could also be a problem with the clutch slave cylinder.

sounds like somthing that spins is uneven and is creating a pulsing pressure in the fluid. Throw bearing could be the culprit...sux for you . you have to take off your tranny good luck

Well, for starters, you aren't supposed to lightly step on the clutch pedal, you are supposed to fully engage the clutch, or fully disengage the clutch.

Only stepping lightly on the clutch causes the pressure to slightly decrease and now the disc starts to slip, heat up, and wear much more than normal.

slippage is the point of a clutch... i'd imagine it's under more load and building more heat as you let it out in 1st from a stop than what he's talking about.

steping on it lightly while going down the road, or "ridding" the clutch will wear it prematurely. however, i'm guessing the OP hears the noise everytime he pushes the pedal. this is just his "test procedure"..

Thanks for the info so far.

I actually hear the "squealing" whenever i'm at a traffic light or stop sign out of gear. To get rid of the sound, I would clutch in completely. But if i were to slightly press down the clutch (5cm), the squealing gets louded and I can feel the pulsing.

I don't know if the clutch has ever been replaced or not, bought the car 8 months ago... I believe the pulsing was always there, but the squealing started 2 months ago? but i don't always hear it. But i can always produce the squealing now by pressing on the clutch lightly.

Thanks.

i fully agree on the throw out bearing being the culprit. yank it apart (if you have some understanding of mechanics its easy) ant take a look.
