2000 Honda Civic SiR
Hello,
My Civic is currently making the worst road noise in the world and I feel that it is making this noise due to a noisy, worn wheel bearing. Could this be the issue? I know that such an issue could cause this terrible noise, but how could one make sure this is in fact the issue? There is basically no tread left on the front tires, so that should not make the noise I am hearing.
Is it difficult to replace the wheel bearings on this vehicle, or would it be wise to take it to a mechanic to get the work done? Thanks for the information!

Can you describe the noise?
If the front wheel bearing is indeed bad, you can save money by removing the knuckle yourself. Then take the knuckle to a shop to have the old bearing pressed out and the new one pressed in.

from my experience a month or so ago take it to discount tires or americas tires (same company) or pep boys ($15) & tell them what your hearing and they will tell you what it is. I had some bull s**t company *COUGH* express tire *COUGH* tell me it was a bearing that needed to be replaced. $240 bucks later it still made the noise so I took it to pep boys they rotated my tires & the noise went away! so tires could be it, mine were almost bald.

The noise is basically a constant noise, not really related to how quickly or not you are driving. No difference if you are turning I don't think. The tires are almost bald, and from what Kao was saying, I think I am in the same situation.
The seller told me it was probably a worn wheel bearing, but I am not completely sure. It is basically loud road noise - that might be the best way to explain it.
