jdm d15b conversion boost?
Hi my girlfriend just bought a 98 civic ex with a jdm d15b conversion. off the bat the car had a surging problem at 1500-2000 rpm. well my buddies and i change distributor, replace throttle body, replace all sensor on the intake manifold. nothing helped. well just yesterday we rewired the some of the plugs and now it runs perfect. the main reason was the owner before plug the wrong sensor plug to the sensor. there like 3 plugs wires that dont plug to anything i guess. the car has odb2 wiring but has a odb1 ecu and conversion adapter. Now i was wondering is this a good motor to boost or no?
The FI guys can help you figure this one out, there is a whole section for it. They'll probably tell you that any motor is good for boost with a bit of work. The D15b makes good power for a 1.5 and that usually means that its very high compression. Unless you're running low boost or have a very good tuner, at the very least you'll have to do some internal work to toughen it up for boost. Possibly forged pistons and stronger rods. Check out the forced induction section for more indepth opinions. Also check out youtube, there have been many d15's boosted over the years.
thanks i was just wondering. I also heard that the d15b was a solid block so it would boost higher than b16 but well i guess i can just play around with it some more thanks
