I am planning an HID retrofit for my EM1 civic.

This is the parts list I have so far:

1 set of S2000 projectors
1 set of shrouds (not sure what type)

1 set of projector style headlamps (the type with separate H1 bulbs for high and low beams.)

So the big question is, what type of HID "kit" with the ballasts and everything else should I get? Should I go with Phillips, McCullough, Denso, or can I get away with a generic kit?

What are some of the better places to order from?

 

I'd go with some Philips bulbs (d2s/d2r) and for ballast's Id get Denso or Matsushita but any OE ballast's are good. I wouldn't get generic kits since they don't last to long.

Also I would buy a wire harness for your car so you won't fry anything.

How do I know what type of bulb to use?

Should I use the type of bulbs for the headlamp housing I am using or should I use the type of bulb for the projectors I am using?

Should I order a D2S bulb so it fits into the S2000 projector or an H1 bulb that fits in the new headlamp assembly?

 

Is the biggest difference between bulbs the type of socket they will fit in? So is a D2S and an H1 HID bulb the same except for the socket part?

 

D2S, all true HID projectors use D2S, D1S, or D4S.

 

well from the parts list, i assume that you will be taking out the projector from your new housings and replacing with the s2k projectors? therefore you should get the hid kit for the s2k's (d2s) and philips would be the better choice for bulbs. a great place to order parts would be theretrofitsource.com IMO they have almost everything you need.
